Would it help college football to impose a salary cap, much like the NFL?

Sounds like some of the booster collectives are self imposing already.

If Emmert wanted to reclaim even a smidgen of credibility he could try to get out in front of this

It's kind of a runaway train now. He should've been getting out in front many years ago.

It's encouraging that the money guys are already hedging on their promises. The mess might reign itself in.

Just had this conversation this morning with one other old person that doesn’t matter and doesn’t really know shit. Yes equal parts. Whatever the stipend was make it five or ten times that and that’s what everyone gets. Share the NCAA CFB money. The boosters that can continue to figure out how to pay kids for keeping an eye on the automatic sprinkler system or the fire alarm system, then good on them. If the kids can get extra money or tattoos for making an appearance, selling their participation ring or whatever started all this happy horseshit then congrats, life achievement award.

Invalid pole. That is like saying there’s salary caps for endorsements.

This isn’t sustainable. Some of these numbers being thrown around can’t be true. And if they are, there’s gonna be massive jealousy.

$2 million for a quarterback? You were supposed to sign a quarterback every year. So you’re telling me the top schools gonna pay eight to $10 million just in quarterbacks? No way.

I think you’re right—I tend to think they’re not accurate. Seems like a lot of the time people see the biggest number getting thrown around on cfb rumor twitter and then that number becomes truth. When in reality it’s substantially lower

Do the players pay taxes on their NIL deals?

You have to admit you are a professional league with paid, professional athletes first.

I'd prefer a salary minimum. If you can't afford to compete get out of FBS.

Eventually it will happen. What's to stop young gangbanging players for someone to just be like hey I'll give you money.

    Then just don't do it

That’s how you end it. When a guy gets his 100k signing bonus, the IRS comes along at the end of the year and says, you owe us 30 grand or so. Now kid doesn’t have it, since he blew it all on Camaros and since he didn’t play well the money guy sure ain’t gonna give it to him.

Really wonder if all those A&M kids actually had taxes withheld.

I’m sure he will get right on it in his last two months on the job.

I would have zero faith in this being enforced effectively. The NCAA is dead.
