What's to negotiate? Just get on the stage and debate.

"This final decision is unprecedented for the Coalition and is a huge loss for the voters of Washington state who deserve to hear from officials seeking national or state-wide office. Participating in debates every six years with a coalition of media outlets and partners from around the state is not an unreasonable ask and we’re disappointed that Sen. Murray feels otherwise," said Alicia Crank, the executive director of the Washington State Debate Coalition.

Democratic U.S. Sen. Patty Murray on Friday declined a formal debate in Seattle with Republican challenger Tiffany Smiley, and instead agreed to appear in a town hall forum that will air only on KIRO-TV.

The announcement came after months of negotiations between the Washington State Debate Coalition and Murray’s campaign for a live debate produced by the larger group of media outlets. The coalition, of which FOX 13, KOMO 4, KING 5, KIRO 7, KCTS 9-Crosscut, TVW, KUOW and The Seattle Times are all members, had been working with both campaigns for a debate Oct. 25 at Pigott Auditorium on the Seattle University campus. Smiley’s campaign quickly agreed to the Oct. 25 debate, and pledged to participate whether Murray does or not.

During the Town Hall, the candidates will answer live questions asked by residents, who will comprise a diverse group from several regional civic organizations and nonprofit groups, including the League of Women Voters of Washington Education Fund, Northwest African American Museum, and the Ethnic Chamber of Commerce Coalition.

Sounds like the people asking questions and the organizations they represent are hand picked. Democracy in action, lol

“KIRO 7 is committed to delivering vital context and greater understanding to residents of Western Washington,” said KIRO 7 Vice President and General Manager Pat Nevin. “Providing state-wide access to the Washington U.S. Senate candidates in a live forum, where they will answer important questions, is key to ensuring viewers have relevant information Washington constituents need to cast their vote.”

“This is democracy in action,” KIRO 7 News Director Tara Finestone added. “Voting is one of the most important tools citizens have to steer the future of our country. Western Washington residents deserve to have this live, unfiltered access to hear directly from the candidates, and KIRO 7 is proud to provide this platform to our community. KIRO 7 is a leader in providing live, local, in-depth election coverage over-the-air, on kiro7.com, and streaming on the KIRO 7 phone and TV apps. The U.S. Senate Town Hall is another example of the unique and valuable content Western Washington residents depend on KIRO 7 journalists to provide.”

Run a campaign ad where you tell everyone that she’s a scared fat bitch who won’t debate.

So, you can imagine how excited KIRO would be if this was the lineup of concerned Washington constituents.

During the Town Hall, the candidates will answer live questions asked by residents, who will comprise a diverse group from several regional civic organizations and nonprofit groups, including the National Rifle Association, the Concerned Taxpayers of Washington, the Conservative Ladies of Washington and the Washington Right to Life Foundation.

I was thinking the same thing, but along the lines of "So they don't want 'me' asking any questions. Nice."

Murray believes she has a right to that seat and her cult like followers fo to. So they’re fine with no debates.

Maybe Tiffany will find a way to point out the lack of diversity of the questions and that the questions aren’t hitting the top issues on people’s minds…
