That blows. RIP.

Very sad to hear. His children’s Tweets ripped my heart out. RIP Mr. Jones.

How do we automatically know it's CTE? I know several people who are depressed or have mental issues and they never played football.animate said: -
We don't ... I'm just assuming. But its a pretty good guess for someone who played at rod Jones level.DerekJohnson said: -
That's a tough one. RIP
They'll find out but he does fit the profile for many reasons
His daughter, Jamie, told the Seattle Times that her father had recently been diagnosed with early-onset dementia. His family believes he had symptoms of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). He also had a history of alcohol abuse. The family began making arrangements with the staff at Boston University’s CTE Center to donate Jones’ brain for research.
“He’s been dealing with depression for years,” said daughter Jamie. “I can’t pinpoint exactly when, but he started to notice some memory loss. He just couldn’t remember things.” -
Would you bet against it?DerekJohnson said: -
Of course the family thinks it was CTE or alcoholism. No one wants to live in a world where their family member just selfishly takes their own life of their own free will leaving behind their kids and wife.minion_doog said:That's a tough one. RIP

The people who jumped out of buildings to save themselves from fire on 911 are just as selfish. Suicide is not a selfishness act. To those who commit it, it is the only choiceHouhusky said:

Not all circumstances of suicide are the same, too lump them all together is ignorant at best.minion_doog said:

Are you going to call all of the HH members selfish when they commit mass suicide on the day Savell Smalls commits to Stanford?!?! For those who do it is the only choice.Houhusky said:

I've had dinner with people with CTE and they would NEVER kill themselves

The more football fans turn a blind eye to CTE, the quicker the game will die.

It’s real, but a lot of these guys just have no identity at all other than playing ball. Their whole life was built around it and you can’t play forever.DerekJohnson said: -
I probably would.UWhuskytskeet said:
Would you bet against it?DerekJohnson said: -
I didn't deny its existence, but it has become a knee jerk reaction to automatically assume that it is at the root of all issues for former players. if Jones played 10 years in the league I would feel more inclined to assume it.RoadDawg55 said:

That sucks - RIP.
Not saying I think it is CTE or not, but he shot himself in the head, which might complicate the findings and there’s an outside shot that it means he just plain killed himself (not CTE related). Seau and Duerson shot themselves in the chest because they knew that they wanted their brains studied — he didn’t. But he might not have been concerned about anyone studying his brain either way.
Any way you look at it, it sucks. -
Completely agree.DerekJohnson said:

CTE can start much earlier than that.DerekJohnson said:

Derek is right. It is just trendy now to blame everything on head trauma. People have been blowing their brains out for as long as guns have been invented due to depression and alcohol. I know somebody like that, and he never played a fucking down of football. He's been dead for 15 years.
