Penn State thought du jour

I don't think you should be making light of molested children.
-
I never molest the kids
-
I think Penn State got off easy.....but that's just me. How they are allowed to even have athletics as part of the university is baffling to me.

Only the coaches and refs.RaceBannon said:I never molest the kids

The only reason you are saying that is because you are probably a pedophile

100% disagree. That as not an athletic issue. It was a criminal issue. Those involved need to personally be held accountable. The school as a whole may be liable as well, but to say the football team can't go to bowl games is absurd. If this happened at a school science camp would the chemistry department be closed down or would the people involved be arrested and or sued?HuskyJW said:I think Penn State got off easy.....but that's just me. Because it was around football it became the outrage of the day and the villagers showed up with pitch forks and demanded blood. Emmert took the easy way out and gave them what they wanted. He did it not so much to punish PSU, but to show the world just how awful the NCAA thinks child abuse is. He also hates war, supports the troops, hates elder abuse, animal abuse and poverty. Profiles in courage material right there.

I understand the criminal issue....and I get what Damone is saying. My issue was the coverup and the overall lack of morality that went through the football coaches and athletic department. Once people knew about it and did nothing....they shouldn't have had the privilege to continue.

Is this a chemistry department recruiting event? Did the dean of the department try to cover it up?MikeDamone said:

Its not the NCAAs job to enforce federal laws. they overstepped their jurisdiction, regulate sports that is their only job.HuskyJW said:I understand the criminal issue....and I get what Damone is saying. Fuck morality, if they broke the law then prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law, if they didnt then STFU and LEAVE!
My favorite fucktarded logic was the need for a lawsuit... The taxpayers paid for a prosecutor to file a suit against a public university which they fund. -
When the sex abuse involves the sports facilities of a member institution of the NCAA and the support of active NCAA coaches, they have the right to get involved.Houhusky said:

Why? If a coach murdered someone in the locker room and another coach covered it up should the team get a bowl ban? Or maybe just send those people to prision.TierbsHsotBoobs said:

As a guy who ran Penn State football, Joe Paterno could have asked Sandusky to LEAVE! the Penn State football facilities forever.
Try next time, please. -
Have to agree with this. That Sandusky still used Penn State facilities after the investigations in the late 90's and McQuery telling Paterno about Sandusky raping a boy in the shower is incredible.TierbsHsotBoobs said:

Penn State deserved some punishment for letting this happen, although the extent to which they were penalized is bullshit.
I'm kind of torn in this case. On one hand, the players had nothing to do with any of this, and no NCAA rules were broken. On the other hand, Penn State deserved to be punished.

Penn state can be sued and fined. Just like the Catholic Church. Although banning the church wouldn't be a bad idea (hi Harv!), its not a option.RoadDawg55 said:

The punishments that were handed down by Emmert and the NCAA vacate wins and records from players who "have no control over the idiotsin the cubesin charge" and punish future players that were in junior high or elementary school during the molestation with restrictions on bowl games, scholarships, and big10 TV money. The icing on the cake is the NCAA punishing tax payers with a 60 million dollar "fine".
Which NCAA rule did Penn state break? -
Following that logic, no one except maybe some coaches should ever get punished by the NCAA.TheKobeStopper said:

No one should have been punished by the NCAA. Any punishment should have been through criminal and civil courts. NCAA just had to grandstand. Notice how quickly they moved. What normally takes month they did in days. They had to do it while it was in the news and it was the outrage of the day. The NCAA punished PSU for their own benefit, not to serve any sort of justice.TierbsHsotBoobs said:
