I think Penn State got off easy.....but that's just me. How they are allowed to even have athletics as part of the university is baffling to me.

100% disagree. That as not an athletic issue. It was a criminal issue. Those involved need to personally be held accountable. The school as a whole may be liable as well, but to say the football team can't go to bowl games is absurd. Because it was around football it became the outrage of the day and the villagers showed up with pitch forks and demanded blood. Emmert took the easy way out and gave them what they wanted. He did it not so much to punish PSU, but to show the world just how awful the NCAA thinks child abuse is. He also hates war, supports the troops, hates elder abuse, animal abuse and poverty. Profiles in courage material right there.
