I agree they need to make it feel like the fans are part of the team. I’ve seen Coker and the TSIO guys hit on this point when talking about players pumping the crowd up, etc.
This is the whole idea behind the 12s... that the fans are literally a twelfth player on the field.
I’m not saying we need to recreate the 12s (please no) but I think there’s some room to make it clear the fans need to be involved. -
There's nothing on display to get pumped up about. The offense is either a shitfest or a snoozefest. The defensive philosophy is let you drive 70 yards and kick a field goal. Special teams need to be watched with eyes closed. You don't need to sell booze to keep people in seats. They market to the wrong people 100% of the time and are surprised when those people don’t do anything, show up late, and leave early. They provide nothing to make the experience better and therefore do nothing to help the team win, which in turn does nothing to help get better players, which in turn does nothing for us to make more money.
All they care about is immediate payout instead of long term hardcore fan committment. -
If you make a household income over 50K, you shouldn't be allowed in. I think that should be a rule.
We need a lot more rabid (poor) blue collar people in that place. -

I think there are a lot of contributing factors as have been previously mentioned but it all defaults to the quality of the product on the field and let's face it this team is boring as hell. We schedule shitty out of conference opponents that nobody wants to watch then back that up with a style from our team that nobody wants to watch.Miley_Cyrus said:

This kind of reminds me of an early DJ team. Spotty offense but winning defense (but James also won special teams). When Pete gets all three phases in sync, he will begin to make the playoffs on a semi regularly basis. It took James a while to realize that great teams have an offense every bit as good as their defense.whuggy said:

Interesting point you make here. I started going to games when I was five years old (1976). From 1976-1980, my dad and I sat somewhat near the tunnel. Rabid fans. From 1981-1986, we sat in the south side upper deck right near the east goal line. BLUE COLLAR people all around us, loud and rowdy. I remember a longshoreman named Arnie who sat right in front of us. Whenever he got irritated, he'd shout "C'MON MILLEN!! DO SOMETHING!!! In 1987, we moved to the new upper deck about the 20 yard line. First game was against Stanford. Huge pre game ceremony, a bazillion balloons released into the air. I was 16 years old. Early in the game, something exciting happened. I jumped up screaming. Felt a tap on my shoulder. Got told to sit down and settle down, or words to that effect. Totally different culture.

My pops would be rollin' over in his grave if he saw how that crowd bailed at halftime. Of course, he would have been asked to leave by other "fans" by the time Stanford pulled within 10. -
