Met a girl named Elizabeth from Mercer Island in a UW summer quarter session who went to Brown. Fucked her. She was smart. That's all I know about the Ivy League. Appears the girls put out.
Fuck you and your flag Sven. -
You sound poor.TurdBuffer said:
I steered my kid away from the Ivy Leagues, and don't regret it for a second. Didn't want her majoring in Ethnic Studies and moving into my basement after graduation with 250k in student loans. Instead she's having the time of her life elsewhere, got a basketful of scholies and will graduate with zero debt.NorwegianHusky said:
This. But more importantly, it's a fucking Ivy League school.WeakarmCobra said:
They don’t, but theyoffer assistance other ways. Pretty much a scholarship without being called oneHillsboroDuck said:
Do ivies give full athletic schollies now? I know they never used to.NorwegianHusky said:I really doubt he's gonna walk on at UW when he has Ivy League offers. He'd have to be too dumb to be able to get those Ivy League offers in the first place.
Call it a humble-brag, that's fine. But given all the Ivy League dipshits and Mrs. degrees I've encountered through the years, I can say with certainty that those schools are vastly overrated and many are located in dull shithole towns. Blech. -
Seriously. Spinzone like you read about. Also I steered myself away from Stanford, you know, didn’t apply or get accepted, but steered myself away non the less, couldn’t deal with all the nerds majoring in ethnic studies. It’s not like the Ivy’s and Stanford are feeders into the top financial institutions and tech companies in the world or anything like that.Dennis_DeYoung said:

Wife went to an Ivy league on an athletic schollie. Can confirm mountains of debt despite the scholarship all to work in education. She's top of her field but still, it's good she married someone that went to a public school and majored in Econ.
Ivy League 100% worth it if you are majoring in finance, pre-law, econ, pre-med, etc. Doubly so for old boy network shit like Wall street finance. 100% waste of money for any other major even most STEM ones. Better to go to a top public university with in-state tuition. -

I was recruited by Yale. My parents were too rich for me to get any gubmint assistance and way too damn poor to pay for me to go there.
Unless you're loaded, some type of minority or extreme poor/abundance where you can get massive assistance or you are majoring in something where you can make absolute bank going to an Ivy rarely makes tons of sense. -
ROI on an Ivy undergrad degree is through the roof. If you turned down Yale, you done fucked up, son. Guy I played HS football with played football at Columbia - is now a partner at a Wall Street firm. Worked out pretty well for him.HillsboroDuck said:

Ivies are pretty much is very nice communities (Yale notwithstanding).

If you want to make money you should go into finance. If you are too dumb to do that, then go into construction.
Also - lol at the fucking stupid fuck argument “my wife went to an ivy and now she’s in debt.”
You fucking stupid goober - this has nothing to do with “Ivy’s” and has everything to do with... wait for it... wait some more you stupid shit...
Private school. Turns out it’s more expensive than public school and your fucktard of a wife shouldn’t have been stupid enough to go to any private school and play SPURTZ and major in something that isn’t obviously going to make her money.
I’m sorry she was expecting something that obviously wouldn’t happen... all while diminishing the impact of her education by playin SPURTZ so she could have fun!!!
She sounds dumb and from the fact that you can’t even conceptualize an obvious third variable that wholly explains this phenomenon (by the way, Ivy’s are getting cheaper while shit tier places like PLU get more expensive) - you don’t sound too fucking bright your damn self.
If you are dumb enough to think that Ivy League educations are 1) about giving you unbeatable career connections, 2) are less expensive than other private schools, 3) have a responsibility to push you into a lucrative major, 4) are “worth it” given some stupid fucking post hoc metric... then you are probably the kind of idiot that goes to and Ivy League school, majors in something that leads to a low paying job and then have your husband who supports you complain about it like a fucktard on a random message bored.
Other than that, great point! -
I like how you missed the part where I said go to an Ivy if you're going to make in something where you can make bank. No shit go Ivy if you want business or finance of anything along those lines.AZDuck said:

If you're majoring in anything that isn't going to set you up to make bank, might not be the best route unless you have the financing from home or gubmint. -
I live in Palo Alto and I totally agree with this thread.
All the houses less than 15,000 square feet in size are the ones with cars that have Ivy League bumper stickers and I have yet to see a single McLaren with an Ivy League sticker on it. Total losers.
The Ivy League people are swimming get jobs too easily here...they aren't forced to be resourceful...LOL at some of them who are stupid enough to think that the bag loads of stock options and quarterly equity grants will even remotely make up for the lost awesomeness of going to a state school.
