Taking an RB in the first round and hiring Schottenheimer were clinchers for me. This team won't win again until they hire a new HC/GM.
Agree. The Penny pick was a major headscratcher to me and the Schotty hire even worse. Penny looks fat and slow while Schottenheimer is who we thought he was, a shitty OC. Carroll/Schneider hit on their first few drafts but it's been a complete shit show since 2012 in terms of personnel decisions.
All those wasted picks in 2013 - 2016... The 2015-2016 guys that should be finishing up their cheap rookie contracts and playing for contracts. The 2013 and 2014 misses and lack of guys worthy of extensions forced the two bad trades last year that will linger into 2019 and 2020 now.
Really don’t see how it gets turned around before then without hitting on another historically good draft like in 2011 or another version of the Saints draft from last year.
Not sure who to specifically blame either, Pete has his hands in everything, including the offense. Always laughed at the vitriol for Bevell and Cable, the were simply taking orders from Pete as the new OC is now. Their firings were just some red meat for the 12s.
Schottenheimer had a horrible track record before coming to Seattle, the Seahawks deserved what they hired. The defense is going to get shredded by any above average QB. So far they have had the luxury of facing Keenum and Trubisky. Agreed that this is a 6-7 win team.
Can Russell Wilson start taking a little bit of the blame yet? Or are we going to use the "He doesn't have a line" and "He doesn't have anyone to throw to" for the rest of his career? Amazing how he can look like shit for 3 quarters, make one "good" throw, and everyone forgets about him shitting his pants.
Blaming this on Wilson is FS.
You let two of his top three receivers walk in FA, take the other one via injury, put him behind the worst OL in history and draft a shitty RB in the first round while hiring a proven awful OC and expect him to still produce.
He's not a perfect QB but he has literally zero to work with right now.

Cable sucks ass. Bevell was light years better than this shit show in charge now.
Agree the drafts from 2013-16 are the biggest issue. 17 and 18 look better but too little too late.

TL; DR: His best weapon is Will Dissly.
Case closed.
And when he gets paid 80 Billion dollars a year they won't have any more money to upgrade anything and he can live off of 1 Super Bowl the rest of his career because "he doesn't have anything".

You're one of my favorite posters but this shit is retarded. His cap hit this year and average per year is less than Kirk Cousins, Andrew Luck, Matthew Stafford, Jimmy Garroppolo, Derek Carr, Drew Brees and Joe Flacco. His annual average is less than Aaron Rodgers and Matt Ryan.
And his deal is within $2 million of another set including Cam, Eli, Roethlisberger, Rivers.
The only good to great QB in the league who isn't on a rookie deal and doesn't have a deal within Russell's price range is Tom Brady, who is the GOAT for a damn reason but is also married to a financial powerhouse. Expecting anyone else to take a deal like Brady is unrealistic. Brady is the outlier here.
Russell is like the tenth highest paid QB in the league. You can have a highly paid QB and a roster around them that doesn't suck ass. I'd trade Russell's weapons for anyone on that list outside maybe Flacco and Jimmy G.
Wilson isn't perfect but he's far from the problem.

I am talking about next year when he gets his big kahuna contract, not this years. I don't blame this entirely on Wilson, it is mostly PC/JS and the terrible management of contracts combined with a bunch of NFL drafts in a row that were next to meaningless. Wilson just gets a free pass for how mediocre he has been lately. His ability to turn a 5 yard sack into 15 if second to none. His ability to overthrow people who are WIDE open is getting more apparent while the plays he makes with his feet are less and less.

Point on Cable and Bevell is that we don’t know how much Pete was limiting them, I’m sure they sucked as you suggest but you’re naieve if you think they weren’t just following orders. Pete ran off the best offensive assistant he ever had at USC to hire yes men. This board should know better than to blame assistant coaches by now.

Pete won a SB so it’s a little different than Ty or Sark IMO.
And yes Pete wanted Cable so he gets the blame for him. Cable still needed to LEAVE.

The team is going to get better though. The debate will be to re-sign Russ.
They need to quit signing guys like Lockett to big extensions. They should have learned that lesson by now.
