Huff

He plays the best talent regardless of experience (Kirkland over James and Sosebee)
He's about real competition. Hilbers and Wattenberg were benched and replaced last night by Roberts and Bainivalu at LT and LG. When Sosebee sucks as usual his ass gets benched and Norgaard comes in. It's nice to see some pretty good O-line talent in the two deeps and guys actually having to compete to play and getting benched when they suck.

That's cool and all, but I would prefer to watch an actually good OL.

I can see the talent in the two deeps myself. The issue is none of them are good yet because they are Freshman and Soph's. So we suck. Bad.StrongArmCobra said:He can recruit

But it's just mental. They will get that stuff cleaned up and 2019 will be special.Swaye said:

Kirkland looked over matched last night. Bain played bad. They’re young guys with potential but ideally they wouldn’t see the field as redshirt freshman.
I do agree with Strongarm that’s it’s refreshing to see guys get yanked when they aren’t performing. Maybe Huff should be in charge of the QBs. -
Teams would stop blitzing if we had a QB that knew how to throw to the empty space.

Well, on Huff with coaching, I'm in LIPO mode. I'm not really sure whether he can coach or not or what's going on. We need coaches that can do both... one of the major reasons we suck on the OL is that we are playing a lot of young, talented guys who are fucking up. This is primarily due to the mess Strausser left (currently our available jrs and seniors are Henry Roberts, Jared Hilbers, Jesse Sosebee, Kaleb McGary, Matt James, Dev Burleson and Nick Harris). Our available freshman and sophomores are much more talented (Kirk and Bain; Watty played like shit, which is worrying) and of course the freshmen.
Ultimately, we are going to need to have players with talent and great coaching. Bama right now is the perfect beacon for how to run a program (get talent, coach them great, etc).
So, I'm fucking fine if we have to can Huff if he can't coach people up. We need both. If we don't make some serious strides by the end of the season, I'm going to be on the 'can Huff after signing day' train.
I don't understand this idea that we have to choose one or the other.
Every coach has to be like Jimmy Lake or Malloe. Recruit AND coach NEM. -
Adrian Klemm proved that you can put together the worst OL in the conference with nothing but 4 and 5 star recruits in your stable. I will continue to sing Huff's praises on the recruiting bored where he is killing it but will have nothing to say about him on this bored until our line doesn't look like it did yesterday. Like all the coaches, he sucks until he doesn'tSwaye said:

What the fuck are you watching? Neither of them were over matched by anybody. I didn't see anything from either of them that made me think "that was really bad" or "he's not physically ready yet". Both looked fine from a physical standpoint. Kirkland had some nice run blocks.ToddTurnerLIVES said:Kirkland looked over matched last night. Bain played bad. Huf realizes that the greater good demands Browning get injured, he has ordered his troops to lay down their arms

Super overreaction. It takes time to develop offensive lineman. Huff deserves time to get his guys and coach them up. Wait and see what the O-line looks like when Huff's guys are the Juniors and Seniors starting. Any thought of firing him after this season is way over the top. Gregory has been here forever and Huff is a better recruiter. Huff ain't going anywhere anytime soon. You also have to acknowledge that Huff was previously the O-line coach at Boise State when they had great success under Petersen and one of his O-lines at Boise won the Joe Moore award for the best O-line in the country. I don't think he'd be here if he couldn't coach and his track record says he can.Dennis_DeYoung said:Well, on Huff with coaching, I'm in LIPO mode. Context is also important. Utah and every team UW plays are gonna have some blitzes or stunts up their sleeve that they haven't shown on tape and unleash them against UW to try to confuse our O-line who aren't prepared for them so they can try to knock off the big dogs. It's tough enough to be Freshman and Sophomore lineman playing. It's even more difficult when every team is coming at you with some new and exotic pressures you've never seen before and didn't prepare for during the week of practice. I have no doubt they'll get better and play more assignment sound.
You also have to put blame on the OC for not calling effective blitz beating plays. -
BOTH. WE NEED BOTH. RECRUIT AND COACH.bananasnblondes said:

It's like Chefs (coaches) and ingredients (players). Of course you can burn a prime 28-day dry aged steak to shit. Should that be a surprise to anyone?
I cannot fucking figure out why you morons cannot understand that NO ONE IS SAYING RECRUITING IS ALL THAT MATTERS.
However, have you seen Bama? It matters. So does coaching. Get it? -
As bad as Browning is, it also proves our offensive coaching is shit. Hot routes are a thing most teams have in their arsenal. I have no idea why we don't seem to have them.2001400ex said:Teams would stop blitzing if we had a QB that knew how to throw to the empty space.

This true. The RBs and TEs should be a big part of that in the passing game.RoadDawg55 said:

Agreed.. See the blitz and two receivers need to change their routes. How do you think Brady can still be a QB at 53 years old. Gets rid of the ball quick.RoadDawg55 said:

Maybe we saw different things, but last night’s OL struggles looked like 95% Hamdan. Holy shit did he call a bad game. You can’t fault the OL for not picking up 7 rushers.ToddTurnerLIVES said:Kirkland looked over matched last night. Bain played bad. It's a young oline. That is not intended to be an excuse but they are going to struggle on the road against blitzing teams.
It is on the coaches to help them out and make the game more simple, something hamdan has done an atrocious job at. -
I'm willing to fire anyone responsible for line play last night
-
Maybe you should be the coach then. Get them to play real hard nosed football like back in your day when they wore leather helmets.RaceBannon said:I'm willing to fire anyone responsible for line play last night
