When I was 17 I was in Carson City Nevada as a fire was closing in on the town. At dusk you could see a glow over the other side of the hill as the fire raged on. Gigantic DC-10s roared low overhead dropping that pink stuff on the hillsides. Pretty dramatic.

I'm not even in Cali but have been surrounded by fires for a few weeks. There have been evacs and even a death within a few miles.
