There is a reasonable debate to be had about how to enforce immigration laws within our borders (the responsibility of ICE).
But the mere phrase "Abolish ICE" allows Dems to be painted as radicals who want open borders, and I expect many voters will in fact see them that way as a result.
It's one of the problems with the BLM movement and the NFL players kneeling for the anthem. Their own labels and symbols are needlessly undermining their substantive objectives.

I think there's a good case to be made against commandeering local police to enforce federal immigration laws. That argument, which is wonderful and I subscribe to, is based on federalism and the 10th Amendment and practical considerations like wanting all people to talk to the police if they're a crime witness or a victim of domestic violence.
