Am I the only one who doesn't give two shits about Tosh being retained or not?

Either way, it will be interesting.

I'm not really worried about it, but I hope he stays. I'm not going to flip out if he goes though. I actually trust the head coach now.

I'd rather see CP at least give Orgeron a call. Tosh wasn't the "kick ass" recruiter he was supposed to be and the DL coaching was a goddman disgrace at times. I say good riddance to Tosh...

Pretty much this.RoadDawg55 said:I'm not really worried about it, but I hope he stays. I'm not going to flip out if he goes though. I actually trust the head coach now.

It could be settled soon. Or it could take a long time.
-
Try your ass off to fit him
in to the new staff. I get the
whole trust the coach thing
but we are up against some
pretty dynamic recruiting staffs
and need to pull our share of
studs. Petersen can still coach
up what he gets but he might as
well start with better raw material.
Give the chef the best possible
ingredients. -
I was wondering if we were going to have to review how its the head coach not the assistants. We won 7 games with Tosh and without him. Let Petersen build his staff and coach the coaches
-
Nah you don't have to review anything.
We all get it. The Don James model, coach the coaches.
Doesn't mean you dump your best recruiter.
Let him bring in the talent, then teach him to
be a better DL coach. That's his job. -
Looking at Cal and UW one can't help but wonder what the fuck Tosh has done
-
I've never heard a recruit mention on national TV a boise state assistant coach's name during a commitment announcement. I've heard Tosh's name mentioned several times. Tosh Lupoi is a lights out recruiter. He and Petersen agreeing on which recruits to target, and then sending Tosh into the living room would be a deadly combination.Gladstone said:For the first time in 12+ years, I have every confidence in whatever decision the head coach goes with.

Tosh was under two crappy coaches though. I think under Petersen he could recruit really well and would improve as a coach.RaceBannon said:Looking at Cal and UW one can't help but wonder what the fuck Tosh has done
With Petersen in the fold though I agree with most here regarding Tosh or Wilcox. If Petersen thinks he doesn't need them then I'm in WDWHA mode as I trust his evaluation unlike our previous three head coaches. -
Pretty much fucking this!RaceBannon said:Looking at Cal and UW one can't help but wonder what the fuck Tosh has done

Cal had decent defenses every year Tosh was there. He produced two first round draft picks in Cameron Jordan and Tyson Alualu. The DL was much better this year compared to last year. 36 sacks this year (T-11th in the country) compared compared to 27 last year. I saw Littleton, Shelton, and Kikaha all get much better from last season. He also coached up a walk on TE to be a serviceable player on the DL. Kikaha was coming off 2 torn ACL's and was a better player than he was before the injuries. Not to mention his recruiting. It's FS to pretend he is not a good recruiter.RaceBannon said:Looking at Cal and UW one can't help but wonder what the fuck Tosh has done
You just hate on anything the doogs from doogman pump up. No DL coach is as good as they pretend Tosh is, but that doesn't mean he sucks. Tosh isn't a savior, he's a fucking DL coach, but I don't know what you expected out of him. The DL is much better than it was before him, and it should get better.

Sounds like race needs to see a championship from tosh.RaceBannon said:Looking at Cal and UW one can't help but wonder what the fuck Tosh has done

So is it better or should it get better? Do I need to learn the difference? I hate on hype and bullshit which I have had my fill of for a decade.
I love results. Its the head coach -
Petersen's staff is not elite (hard to keep top shelf guys at BSU). So he is going to add some new blood. Most coaches are under contract somewhere else, have loyalties to other coaches/programs, etc. So it is complicated getting them to defect to a new staff.
Compare this to Tosh. Well known to be one of the best recruiters in the country. Also widely regarded as a d coach (Sark is a mediocre coach, but he's not stupid. There is a reason Lupoi has an offer while cozzetto and kiesau are checking their 401ks).
Tosh is gift wrapped for Petersen. Under contract w/ a sizable buyout. From all accounts, he likes it here. Also has a reputation as a mercenary that he probably wants to downplay. Coach Pete should make this happen.
-
When Sark was here I think many placed a great deal of emphasis on the assistants because we knew we had a HC that wasn't worth a damn. The assistants used to give us hope in kind of a hopeless situation.
If Tosh stays and he's a good match with Petersen, great.
If not, I'm trusting CP's judgment. -
I think it would be a bonehead move if he decides not to retain him and Tosh wants to stay. We'll probably never know either way but Tosh supposedly texted Roof and said he'll stay as long as he's wanted. I have faith in CP but am slightly concerned as to how the Boise staff can recruit against the big boys. But unlike with Sark, I'm willing to LIFPO.

It already is better. It's not at the level it ultimately needs to be, but there was improvement from year 1 with Tosh to year 2, and with the whole DL returning and some promising young players, it should get even better. I agree that the head coach is what ultimately matters.RaceBannon said:So is it better or should it get better? Do I need to learn the difference? His defensive lines were good at cal. They have gotten better here and there is young talent that looks the part here.
Having a hired gun on a staff that gets recruits is a legal way to pay for recruits.
All that said let the head coach do what he wants. Keeping tosh would be interesting to see him work with a good head coach and if not, it will be interesting.
Can't we all just enjoy the off season national championship and doog it up together. -
Everyone is talking about the difference between Tosh 2013 and Tosh 2014.RoadDawg55 said:

I will trust Coach Pete to make the best decision. However, I think very few of Sark's staff would be a fit on Coach Pete's staff. Lupoi is probably borderline for compatibility. Quite honestly - Sark's favorite expression -- if Coach. Pete has to pick one guy from Sark's staff, I would make it Tui rather than Lupoi. I think the chemistry is there more with Tui. But I trust the coach to work that out.
-
Clean house top to bottom. I'm 100% ok letting Peterson build his staff and team from scratch.
-
I am too, but the Boise staff has ties to Wilcox and Tosh played under the Boise AHC/LB coach. It's not like we are retaining Nansen. Wilcox and Tosh are good coaches.sarktastic said:Clean house top to bottom. I'm 100% ok letting Peterson build his staff and team from scratch.

Why Tui? What has he done to prove he can coach? Not saying he's bad but if he wasn't a Rose Bowl MVP for UW would he even be considered to stay?Global said:I will trust Coach Pete to make the best decision. See Apostle, this is where you can chime in with your hire the alumni BS. -
Tui got Price back this year and clearly also had Miles well prepared. I would say that is a good coaching job, compared to 2012. And Tui is good recruiting also. But as I said! I am also happy for Pete to clean house.
