THAT ATL KID IS NEVER COMING HERE, it is an absolutely pointless offer and it’s not the only ducking one.Ice_Holmvik said:
With 66 total offers? Compare that to 284 Oregon offers. I understand you are pissed because we have been shit recruiting bucks previously but there is not a chance in hell a Petersen led staff is just throwing out offers to see if one sticks to the wall. They have a plan and they don't offer just to offer. It goes against Pete's whole recruiting philosophy. And....@spirithorse so I can get a chin up in here!Dennis_DeYoung said:Their strategy is "there are lots of guys there, let's follow them and ask them if they want an offer. If they act interested and are a top 300 guy, offer" - that's it.
WE CANT OFFER ELITE KIDS IN STATE BUT WE CAN OFFER SOME KID FROM ATL THAT WE HAVE NO FUCKING SHOT AT.
Congrats they offer not many guys! Woopity doo!
Is there an ELITE BUCK prospect in the P12 recruiting foot print that we haven’t offered?
Not exactly elite, but worth a look. Out of all of these, I like Townsend and Jackson the most. Funa is a lost cause, since he went to Oregon. -
Don't sweat it, Eric.
-
They offered Soli because that Hawaiian/Tahitian motherfucker has been scoring lately.
Pete wont offer until after they have talked to a kid a bunch. Maybe Malloe thinks this kid is into what he is selling.
That is how I would solve Coach K sucking at recruiting if Im Coach Pete: Get the dudes who know how to score to look for their sort of dudes at buck.
Polys can be stubborn (in a good way). If Soli finds family with UW and not in the SEC he could walk away from paper bags. -
Dennis is just shooting for the moon.RoadDawg55 said:
I agree that Buck recruiting has been lacking, but your Bowman shit is why you’re also a retarded because of your TBS obsession . Bowman as our “back up” Buck has more tackles for losses and sacks in one season than Potoa’e has in two. That was a very good freshman season. How many sacks does he need to get before you think he’s good?Dennis_DeYoung said:
Maybe you misunderstand what I meant by desperate. It couldn't possibly be that I didn't communicate it correctly.dnc said:
I'm fine with this take. I #TrustTheCoaches so I assume there is solid reasoning to it, but it doesn't make any sense to me on it's face either. I just don't think there's any reason to think it's desperate when we're still among the least offers extended and at the top of "percentage of offers extended that have been accepted". It's weird as fuck, but not close to desperate.CokeGreaterThanPepsi said:
I don’t think any of the kids that we haven’t offered in state are locks to take our offer, it’s gonna be a battle for those kids.dnc said:
If they were desperate they'd be offering the in state kids that will clearly take the offer if they extend it.Dennis_DeYoung said:
Nah. They are desperate and think think casting a wide net, something's bound to work.Ice_Holmvik said:My guess is the staff believes they are in the process of building a national brand similar to Oregon. Having Adidas as an ally and playing in Atlanta next year will help further that exposure. I think they are trying to establish UW as a program that can take a few kids from the South every year or two the way Oregon can. It might be wasted effort for the now but Pete plays the long game and I think this is part of his plan.
You can disagree with the strategery all day long but desperate's got nothing to do with it.
I don’t think it’s desperate either, I think it’s a ridiculous strategy that they are employing and makes no fucking sense whatsoever.
They are desperate to get a 'big time BUCK' prospect. So, they are throwing out offers and following a bunch of kids we have no shot at in the 'ugly guy propositioning every 10 in the club' kind of way.
Given Coach K's results, why is it the default to assume there is a good strategy? His recruiting here has produced this:
YEAR 1: Nobody.
YEAR 2: Benning (in-state kid, Choate was lead recruiter on, brother went to UW), Jusstis Warren (in-state late offer, no competition), Bryce Sterk (in-state, late offer, no competition), Myles Rice (out-of-state, injured all senior year, no competition).
YEAR 3: Amandre (in-state, minimal competition)
YEAR 4: Joe Tryon (in-state, late offer, some competition, but he always wanted to go to UW)
YEAR 5: Nobody.
So, why the fuck would we think he has a strategy? I don't understand why the default is that he is a good recruiter and knows what he's doing. FIVE FUCKING YEARS OF EVIDENCE shows he is clueless.
Why is it so hard to get people here to hold attitudes that are more nuanced than 'I like this guy/I hate this guy'. I fucking love Coach K. As a guy. As a coach. He is awesome. I do not want him fired. But RYAN BOWMAN is our back up BUCK.
But WHAT FUCKING EVIDENCE IS THERE HE KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING IN RECRUITING!?!?
None. He's gotten blown out for every good BUCK prospect we've been in on. Last year we offered tons of Texas and Southern BUCK kids. ONE KID WENT TO FUCKING LA TECH!!!
On this fucking bored of all places why do we have to take as the default that the coaches know what they're doing.
How about when they get some pelts on the wall, then we trust them?
Fucking show me.
Yeah, he's harder on Bowman than Benning for some reason ... (try hard white guy thing?) but he mad because Petersen isn't getting the all world types that will allow us to compete against the top echelon, get us past divisional titles.
Acknowledging that Bowman gets his stats against mediocre competition just get's dennis' blood pressure boiling ... if Bowman was outperforming and getting those stats when it counts against the likes of Stanford, Penn State and Alabama then that would be different. -
If you actually watch the games here's what you'll find: Benning flashes now and again, but mostly has been unproductive STAT wise. However, as we know, stats are for fucktards.
Benning hasn't done much in terms of pass rush numbers and I'm close to giving up on him ever doing anything in that category (though, supposedly he had a great spring - who knows?) - however, the one thing he does that Bowman DOES NOT do is hold the fucking edge. When we are playing downs 1-2, Bowman gets washed out vs. edge runs constantly. He also gambles a lot and is in places he's not supposed to be. A lot of his stats come from shooting gaps, etc, and while that can be good - he often isn't where he's supposed to be.
On pass rush downs, I'd rather have Bowman in. He gambles a lot and against a QB that can move, that will hurt us, but in general he is way more aggressive and he has really quick feet.
But, if you want our defense to function properly on downs 1-2, Benning is way better for that because he is stout against the run. He's not a playmaker against the run, but Stanford and PSU just ran right at Bowman and BBK literally any time they were on the field. Because they just can't shed blocks against big, athletic guys.
I don't hate Bowman, and I agree that his emergence is fun. I started to buy the hype until we played PSU. In that game Bowman got destroyed and Benning held up, even though he didn't make plays.
Now, this year, maybe Benning (who has two years to go) might learn how to start making more plays and have a JoJo Mathis-esque career. I sure hope so because JoJo didn't do squat as a JR either. I'm not sure what's going to happen, but that's how I feel.
My obsession is not with TBS it's with TALENT. I don't care if they are highly rated guys - I want guys who have rare physical characteristics, who are big, strong, fast and quick.
I'm intrigued by Josiah Bronson because he's got physical talent. I liked Evan Hudson for the same reason. Because those guys had the physical characteristics to hold up against USC/PSU, etc.
However, Myles Bryant and (to a lesser extent) Ryan Bowman aren't getting it for me. I'm in the middle on Jared Pulu - I'm curious to see how he'll perform.
Bowman kind of reminds me of Josh Shirley, TBH. -
I think Josh Shirley would have kicked ass in Petersen's system and coaching for a full 4 years ...
wish we had a time machine. -

Wooching did a competent job of keeping contain but failed miserably when it came to making plays.
Bowman, as Dennis points out, brings pressure against average squads. Upper division opponents, SC and top end national programs exploit his aggressiveness and physical limitations with power counters.
A strong inside LB core can compensate. Little BBK, not so much. -
Potoa’e has been okay. He hasn’t been an impact guy, but he’s mostly solid and does have good physical ability.
Bowman is the best pass rusher on the team. I don’t think it’s even close. Production is production. It’s too early for the Penn State bullshit. It was one game and nobody on defense stood out.
I would have to watch closer about him holding the edge, but he seemed fine. He’s not little either, he’s just short and stocky. 260+ is plenty big to play Buck. -

Couldn't fucking agree more with what Dennis said. I've liked Bowman this whole time, but it's important to remember that he's a rush specialist. He has a quick first step, but he gambles and goes for it all. He's kind of like that Mata'afa guy the Coog had. He's good, but also overrated because he only goes for the big plays, and as a result also gets washed away from the play just as often. Potatoes on the other hand needs to make more impact plays, but the potential for that is there. In the mean time you can depend on him to set an edge (which schematically is more important at Buck than at Sam), and to do his job within the scheme.

True about Bowman but he was a redshirt freshman last year. Everyone shits on Bowman because he struggled against elite teams as a freshman. Sounds like its a foregone conclusion he has peaked as a frosh and is just ok. Very few freshmen redshirt or true can hold up against elite teams. In my opinion Bowman is a really pleasant surprise a true try hard white guy but yhat doesnt mean he wont improve. Especially with this staff. Get back to me when he is a jr or sr. Abd my apologies i am not ranting at you just what i perceive to be the general consensus against Bowman.Baseman said:

Benning could still develop into a stud. During his RS-fr year, he looked like your typical Lakes-coached kid. Tried to use his strength and speed to just chase people down. The problem is he isn't going against 220 lb linemen from South Tacoma. He bit on fakes and was constantly out of position. Last year it seemed like they sent him to reeducation camp to brainwash him and start over with technique. He was tentative and didn't stand out. If he has learned some discipline and mastered his technique, he could have a big year. His name kept coming up on the "most improved" lists from camp

Nobody shits on Bowman. He’s the best pass rusher on the roster and he’s a walk on. He doesn’t have the physical tools to be an everydown guy unless you like shit bowls. Feel free to bump this thread if Bowman develops beyond what he is now.Ice_Holmvik said:
Disagree. So far Potatoe has survived on his physicality and discipline keeping contain. The next frontier, if he’s capable is reacting and using his tools to blow some shit up.FKA_Mousecop said:
Tevis Bartlett still held the edge better than BenningDennis_DeYoung said:If you actually watch the games here's what you'll find: Benning flashes now and again, but mostly has been unproductive STAT wise.
New info that may change the game.
Per Roof, he is half Samoan! He has Poly family in the Seattle area which is why UW started targeting him. Moved to Samoa for a year in which he says he "got in touch with my Samoan roots". He claims he loves Coach K (kid already knows how to fluff an interview), and Kwat is giving him dates to visit but he's noncommittal about whether he'll do it.
1) Half Samoan (Dad is the Poly and played DL at Arkansas and was Ole Miss S&C coach at one point)
2) Poly family in Seattle (parents would be ok with releasing him far away)
3) Didn't attend a lot of combines because "Football is played with full pads - on the field between the hash marks" (isn't in love with recruiting process)
Still 99% no chance of getting him, but it at least explains the offer a bit more and it wasn't a random shot in the dark for no reason.
Get Pete, Lake, and Malloe involved and focus on the dad around family, development, and players UW is putting in the NFL and pray for that 1%.

Commit lots of resources for a 1% chance at pay dirt sounds like a surefire strategy to me.DoogCourics said:New info that may change the game.

Kids who steal laptops aren’t the types we need in this program. Shirley was a total bust. What a waste. Classic example of a kid who looks the part physically but can’t ever put it together..wonder why?animate said:I think Josh Shirley would have kicked ass in Petersen's system and coaching for a full 4 years ...
wish we had a time machine.
Perhaps Bill Belichick, Jimmy Johnson and Chris Petersen are on to something..there’s more to football than just “physical” traits. But what do they know. -

Hearing some big time news about this kid that I can't quite say yet. Need to confirm a few things first but will definitely keep you guys in the loop.

Jimmy Johnson?
Miami? Bad boys of football? Catholics versus the Convicts? Josh Shirley would have been perfect for Johnson -
Exactly. Jimmy Johnson is the epitome of not giving a fuck if you could play. His greatest traits were identifying talent, playing the correct players and motivating those savage mother fuckers to dominate. Am I missing something?animate said:

Yeha I wonder why. Coaching couldn't have had anything to do with it.pat_hm said:

BB won with Aaron Hernandez, Randy Moss, Ochocinco. JJ with Michael Irvin. CP with Titus Young.
Get off this bananas crusade. CP is not perfect. His recruiting approach is not perfect. He needs to get more talent to get to the next level. Talent + CP's culture and program = national dynasty. -
