Maybe you misunderstand what I meant by desperate. It couldn't possibly be that I didn't communicate it correctly.

They are desperate to get a 'big time BUCK' prospect. So, they are throwing out offers and following a bunch of kids we have no shot at in the 'ugly guy propositioning every 10 in the club' kind of way.

Given Coach K's results, why is it the default to assume there is a good strategy? His recruiting here has produced this:

    YEAR 1: Nobody.
YEAR 2: Benning (in-state kid, Choate was lead recruiter on, brother went to UW), Jusstis Warren (in-state late offer, no competition), Bryce Sterk (in-state, late offer, no competition), Myles Rice (out-of-state, injured all senior year, no competition).
YEAR 3: Amandre (in-state, minimal competition)
YEAR 4: Joe Tryon (in-state, late offer, some competition, but he always wanted to go to UW)
    YEAR 5: Nobody.

So, why the fuck would we think he has a strategy? I don't understand why the default is that he is a good recruiter and knows what he's doing. FIVE FUCKING YEARS OF EVIDENCE shows he is clueless.

Why is it so hard to get people here to hold attitudes that are more nuanced than 'I like this guy/I hate this guy'. I fucking love Coach K. As a guy. As a coach. He is awesome. I do not want him fired. But RYAN BOWMAN is our back up BUCK.

But WHAT FUCKING EVIDENCE IS THERE HE KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING IN RECRUITING!?!?

None. He's gotten blown out for every good BUCK prospect we've been in on. Last year we offered tons of Texas and Southern BUCK kids. ONE KID WENT TO FUCKING LA TECH!!!

On this fucking bored of all places why do we have to take as the default that the coaches know what they're doing.

How about when they get some pelts on the wall, then we trust them?

    Fucking show me.
So, what’s the solution? I went to Princeton, not Yale so...I’m clueless.

Yale I agree. Stanford? No fucking way. But Princeton lets anyone in.
They let Jeff Bezos in. It's a school for losers.

I'm sure if I went to Princeton I would think there is some easy or obvious solution, but because I didn't, I understand the world is complex and there's no easy fixes. ;)

What do you do when someone has trouble selling, but you can't get rid of him because he's too valuable?

One thing I might try and do is get an out-of-state win for K to get his confidence going. When you are on a losing streak you get weird. Everyone does. I think this strategy is going to generate a lot of 'thanks but no thanks'es and I don't think that's good for anyone.

I might shift the focus massively to in-region eval and get some offers out to people like Hall or Orin Patu that others WILL offer, but haven't yet. If we can get one of those guys to bite, then we aren't left holding the bag at the end of the cycle. Concentrate on where fish are more likely to bite and I think we will get somewhere.

Right now we are in the 'yelling at the water' phase of fishing.
First, I disagree on how you fix poor salesmanship, you don't solve the problem by shooting layups, you do it by getting used to rejection by swinging at every damn fish that moves. Did they tell you "No"? Great, now you only need to hear "no" ten more times before they tell you "yes". I would have gone with a different gif but I wanted to keep it relevant for Dennis' ABC.

Second, I really still have trouble separating out all of the different fictions vs. truths around DDY. Gay? In a wheelchair? From a car crash? Founding member of Styx? Living in a mansion in the South? I guess I should have gone to a better school.

Yeah, I mean - the science on sales is pretty much: don't wince from rejection, also have confidence. They aren't mutually exclusive. I don't really know how exactly to fix it because I'm not close enough to it to really see what's going on. Maybe Kwat is afraid of rejection. Maybe he's lost confidence.

All of those things are something I can't really determine. But the thing I can determine is that he's propositioning every 10 in the bar and getting nowhere.

I'm not sure he's ever beaten anyone for a recruit for real. They brought in both Lake and Boner to help him close Martin and he couldn't do it. Fundamentally, the bond wasn't strong enough to overcome the fact that we offered late and didn't have the barber in our corner.

You can say 'they cheated' - but Huff went up against them for Curne and I'm sure they tried to cheat there, too. I'm about production not excuses.

I think K is swinging more at 7-9’s then 10’s ... he’s not even getting into the club for 10s

Is there an ELITE BUCK prospect IN STATE that we haven’t offered?

Is there an ELITE BUCK prospect in the P12 recruiting foot print that we haven’t offered?
Mase Funa, Isaac Townsend, Lolani Langi, Tausili Fiatoa, Treven Ma'ae, Troy Fautanu, Drake Jackson, Seth Robinson, Tuia Tupuola, Justus Legg

Not exactly elite, but worth a look. Out of all of these, I like Townsend and Jackson the most. Funa is a lost cause, since he went to Oregon.

We offered Funa, it just isn't showing that on 247.

If we get verbals from non-elite guys then the push back is that we are recruiting BBK and Ryan Bowman types
