Hosted a Danish kid through my kids' high school for the last week. Took him surfing, to the Boardwalk, to the giant redwoods, and shooting. When he got back to his group yesterday for the trip home, the first thing he said to his friends was "I went to a gun range!"
NOC, I know, but the reason I mention it at all is because the morning that we went to the gun range I showed him my rifles and showed him how to wrap the Mini-14 sling around his arm to create a stable shooting platform, as is shown in the pic -

FWIW, a great uncle was 82nd Airborne medic, so he probably carried an M-1 carbine (shot through the legs by a strafing Bf109 during Market Garden).
