There's been one Tier II program to win a NT since TN in 1998. And it was in year 8.5 of Dabo's tenure. We had to have a few good (not NT caliber though) season's to optimize recruiting, which just happened. Nothing has changed with the plan; we are on schedule. You're only in that game because of Peterman. It's not like 3 yards was automatic for Gaskin yesterday. That was a no brainer given how the game was going at that point.
Peterman is what gave you a chance at it; you were outclassed on the field for a majority of the game.

2013: UW 18th : PSU 33rd
2014: UW 38th : PSU 24th
2015: UW 26th : PSU 14th
2016: UW 29th : PSU 20th
AVRG: UW 27th : PSU 28th
The recruiting differences between UW and PSU are tiny, its about player scouting, development, coaching, and scheme... Even players like BBK and Bryant have shown to be serviceable with the proper scheme.
PSUs WR that torched the shit out of our all star CBs and Safeties was a lightly recruited 3 star RS senior WR put in a position to look like an all star yesturday through coaching, development, and scheme.

Petersens entire core competency revolves around taking less superior recruiting classes and making them compete through scheme, coaching, and development with higher tier teams...

The punt in that situation was the right call. The problem was Coach Pete, like the majority of this board, was convinced he had an #elitedefense based on the dreckfest Pac 12 and the cupcake city OOC schedule.
