Don’t feel bad. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electronics Engineering which included extensive study in differential equations and other higher math applications. Even I cannot explain the Common Core mathematics approach, nor get the answer correct. In the real world, simplification is valued over complication. Therefore,

The answer is solved in under 5 seconds – 111.
The process used is ridiculous and would result in termination if used. -
She is pathetically trolling for BBC again with subtly veiled cries for dong using her stupid kid's math homework as her sexual ruse. What a whore. Anyone have her number? I'm in the market.

Back in the early 90s, we would solve the problem the same way, except we would just stack the numbers.

_______

We were instructed to add 2 + 7 on the right row first, and then put a 9 below the line. Then we'd add 3 + 3 on the left row, and put a 6 in front of it. It was a simple way to solve the problem, and it taught the same concept of:
30 + 30 = 60
7+2 = 9
60+ 9 = 69
-
124 + 276
300
90
10
400 is your answer
You can do it in your head all day long. Learned in the 60's man
It's how rainmain can do it with any set of numbers -
Wow I did not know there was even a different method.Fenderbender123 said:Back in the early 90s, we would solve the problem the same way, except we would just stack the numbers.

I've got years of advanced maff for the BS and an MS in stats/fisheries. I can proofread, show another way to solve it, and check answers with my kids. That is it now, with the "show your work" grade system. They get penalized using other ways to solve - even correctly.
3rd grade teacher actually tried to scold me for teaching a method that worked for my older boy. He showed his work on a test and she flipped out in an email. I told her he got it right, didn't he? Crickets....
Common core is not helping kids...especially future STEM kids.

Still don't know what common core is and have never heard the term ever

Used to be you had your change counted back to you when you stopped by for a burger at hondo's shack.
You give a 5 dollar bill for a 3.95 order and it goes
a nickle makes 4 and here's a dollar for five
Now the confused sod looks at the register screen in panic and hands you a wad of cash even though it clearly says to give you 1.05 back -

In the 2010's we let our math teacher do it for us. #WeAreEvolvingPurpleThrobber said:Fenderbender123 said:Back in the early 90s, we would solve the problem the same way, except we would just stack the numbers.
