    I'm old enough to remember when we were always ranked in the preseason top 20/25, even when we didn't deserve it (2003, 1998, 1988, 1985). Don James pretty much kicked ass except for a few years in the late 80s. This post is dedicated to Baabs of course.

    I'm glad I got to see this data. It sure seemed like UW took a slight step back after James quit, but now we all know for sure it happened.

    So in 24 of the 40 seasons, we either started the season ranked or finished ranked or both.

    11 times we outperformed out initial ranking, and in 13 seasons we underperformed. So history suggests coin flip basically on the O/U of #7.
