Wilcox myth of the day

Holt allowed 40+ 6 times in his first 23 games as DC, 50+ 2 times
For all this talk Doogs say about keeping Sark because he hired a "great" defensive staff well the facts don't really bear that out.
Holt gave up more points but also didn't get the benefit of facing Portland State, Idaho State or a pathetic Cal/Colorado(he did face 2009 WSU which is on that par).
Basically the difference between Wilcox and Holt isn't as big as Doogs think.

It's because one is a bald freak and the other is stoic.
Doogs only see the surface. -
Washington is 51st in total defense and 45th in scoring defense.

Disagree it's because one is fired and the other is employed.CollegeDoog said:It's because one is a bald freak and the other is stoic.

Doogs loved Holt's "Fire" and "passion" until he was fired. -
That's with the benefit of playing three Big Sky schools.TierbsHsotBoobs said:Washington is 51st in total defense and 45th in scoring defense.

I feel like Wilcox has been screwed by Sarks offense (turnovers, short field, up-tempo resulting in quick 3 and outs) more than Holt was. But I don't have any stats backing that up.
-
This post wasn't meant to bash on Wilcox. It was to show that firing the coordinator while ignoring the real problem is fucking retarded.
The Dallas Cowboys did that and their defense has gotten worse.
Wilcox is an average DC and Sark is a below average OC and head coach. The only guy on his staff ever worth a shit chose to leave(Nuss). -
that's exactly why we'll do it. We'll fire the coordinator, ignore the HC (who's the real problem)He_Needs_More_Time said:This post wasn't meant to bash on Wilcox. It was to show that firing the coordinator while ignoring the real problem is fucking retarded.

we are the dallas cowboys. The cowboys are something like 20-4 against shit tier teams the last 5 years and 4-20 against good teams. Sound familiar? -

I compared the Huskies to the Cowboys last night in fact. Very eerily similar. -
You have to admit tho that scoring has been going up steadily in the past decade with the spread of the spread O:
http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/stats/byteam?cat1=offense&cat2=Total&sort=537&conference=I-A_PAC12&year=2012
Spread O is here to stay for awhile IMO. Good CBs are worth their weight in cash-filled, fruit baskets. -
I compared Wilcox to Holt who is roughly the same fucking era don't get your point.priapism said:You have to admit tho that scoring has been going up steadily in the past decade with the spread of the spread O:

Also just brought them up to show the fire the coordinator trick still doesn't fuck work. -
Scoring is up, even in the last 4 years.

Yards per play is what you need to look at and the D is 25th. Bottom line is Wilcox is now irrelevant in the conversation about firing Sark.
I would like to see the new coach keep Heyward & Tosh. I know some disagree but Tosh is single handily keeping recruiting alive since Sark/Nansen fucked up our in-state base. Tosh pulled in a great DL class last year and already has a few soft commits for 2015. The JC guy Claude Pelon is a UW lean right now and could probably start next to Shelton. Could you imagine Tosh recruiting on Mora's staff? -
Again this isn't to bash on Wilcox but I keep seeing tweets "You can't fire Sark! He has a great staff in place! He hired Wilcox which was a great hire!"
Just showing Wilcox isn't so great as a reason to retain Sark.
Far as I'm concerned if the new coach wants to fire Tosh I wouldn't mind either. I think he's overrated. -
Prob a good idea to keep Tosh - he seems to be able to get the guys he targets, minus Vanderdoes. There's most likely a valid reason why UW is recruiting McGary as a DE. Cozetto is a POS.

I don't know how Doogs are going to justify losing Baker and McGary. I'm sure they'll come up with something.priapism said:Prob a good idea to keep Tosh - he seems to be able to get the guys he targets, minus Vanderdoes. Doogs always have a fresh excuse as to why you can't expect UW to land hometown player X. -
We know Budda is gone. Losing McGary should be the icing on the cake for firing Sark. We are so pathetic that doogs & pool boy will gloss over it.
-
Doogs will have an excuse though for both. "Sark thought McGary was a DE, he wanted to play OL. You can't blame a kid for choosing a school where he can play offense".HeretoBeatmyChest said:We know Budda is gone. Losing McGary should be the icing on the cake for firing Sark. As for Baker "Well the recruiting is different now. You can't expect to beat out a top tier program like Oregon who is so flashy for a kid like Baker. Oregon built it the right way with stability our day will come!".
I wish my comments were sarcastic but it will be close to actual Doog quotes come February. -
I will admit I was a too high on Wilcox. He's average. I think with a good head coach he is a good coach with a great work ethic, but he hasn't shown any consistent signs of greatness.
-
This comes off as me bashing Wilcox but it is to show that the myth that we should keep Sark because of Wilcox is fucking stupid.RoadDawg55 said:I will admit I was a too high on Wilcox. He's average. The coaching change for DC was some improvement but not much. -
I'd add Joel Thomas to that list.He_Needs_More_Time said:This post wasn't meant to bash on Wilcox. It was to show that firing the coordinator while ignoring the real problem is fucking retarded.

Joel Thomas a local product who chose to LEAVE!
Wilcox should have did that last year and if Sark is somehow retained he'll try his hardest to bail out of here I'm guessing. -
I said it was bull shit years ago. Sark and Holt needed to go, Holt was thrown under the bus by Sark
-
The common denominator has always been Sark. Always. Save for Cozzetto, I have a lot of confidence in the rest of the coaching staff. Relieve Sark of his duties, especially as offensive play caller as well as Cozzetto and you have addressed 2 of our 3 problems. The DL needs a lot of work still but at least if you get the OL on track, you're saving the QB's health and letting the DL/secondary rest for longer spells.
-
Oh and in terms of strength, I'm not sure Ivan Lewis is getting it done. The linemen are thinner and less bulkier now but given their rag doll status, I'm not so sure they're truly gotten noticeably stronger.
-
Common denominator?
Sark -
I thought Wilcox was going to be our next head coach?
-
I dunno who McGary is. But if he wants to play OL, then he obviously must just be caught up in a numbers game. You know, since UW is so loaded there. I can't blame Seven for that.
-
Which is the point. I keep seeing Softy and Kim throwing Wilcox under the bus. I'm like didn't we play this game in 2007 and 2011 already?mobey said:Common denominator?
Sark
Just fire the REAL problem which is Sark and the rest will come true. -
Only way to find out....fire Sark let Wilcox take over with interim tag while we search for a head coachtopdawgnc said:I thought Wilcox was going to be our next head coach?
