Peg - Steely Dan. They went through like 10 guitarists to get the right sound.

The right sound would have been an asteroid smashing into the studio...YellowSnow said:Peg - Steely Dan. They went through like 10 guitarists to get the right sound.
And as far as Steeley Dan goes, the Kid Charlemagne solo is much better, as is My Old School...

I always loved the solo Angus does in Squealer. It isn't that complicated or anything, it's just good solid work, with a guitar making groaning sounds they don't usually make. So fuck off in advance for all the "it's not technically gifted" bullshit.
Plus, the song kicks fucking ass and is way underrated. The solo starts around 2:35.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Z4ijIQYYNo
This one also has a great solo - starts at about 3:25 - and could be AC/DC's best song.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bP6aVG6L1w
Do I like AC/DC?
Yes.
So fucking what?

Not sure I'd pick (spoiler) Stairway to Heaven over Eruption. Eddie is the fucking man.

One and November Rain in the top ten? Fuck off. -
Ronson was a fucking god.WilburHooksHands said:Chinspired by the blues poast, what's your favorite solo? To me, this one is the absolute essence of rock and roll. It's pure sonic domination complete with mascara and women losing their god damned minds. All this with like 4 notes and feedback... The true example of less is more, transcendent.

And yet Larry Carlton who played the solo on Kid Charlie couldn't make the cut for Peg.tenndawg said:

There's a good metalcore band named Unearth who have quite a few that are great.

Intro to "Don't Take Me Alive" is cool tooYellowSnow said:

Royal Scam is my favorite Steely Dan album - letting the vinyl play over and over while tripping kind of burned it into my soul...
Was disappointed by Aja, thought it was too smooth and lacked the reckless abandon of Royal Scam - though Deacon Blues is cool
Decades ago I loved Hendrix Band Of Gypsies, think I left that vinyl playing repeatedly for about 6 months
Tastes change though...and I'm a musical schizoid - really into Eric Dolphy's bass clarinet stuff now, maybe slightly further out than Coltrane -

That's like 1968 or 69 strat with the big old head stock. Similar to what Jimi played at Woodstock.Bad_MotherDucker said:Here's a good warmup exercise for you wannabe axmen

Would it be inappropriate to add Rocky George to this list as basically all his songs are guitar shredding solos that you can't duplicate?

Clapton's Layla. I'm not even a big Clapton fan either.
very close second: "Hangar diez y ocho" - Megadethhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUGIocJK9Tc
Edit: Fucking YouTube edit killed the solo. Go buy it on Google Gay or ITunes or something.Or buy the album. Or go buy it on vinyl if you're a hipster -

I don't know the correct answer. It's subjective bullshit, but Bulls on Parade by Rage is up there. Morello kills it and is doing some weird shit too which makes it even better.

This is one of the best pieces of guitar work you will ever find. It's that perfect time when the booze and drugs have peaked, much like Page on Over the Hills and Far Away at MSG.
Hitch a Ride from Boston is pretty cool. You actually get to hear Barry's extremely good harmonic playing mixed with Tom's over engineered slop.
