Tug Tavern Legal Advice

Hypothetical:

City of Portland parking enforcement writes a ticket on a Washington state licensed vehicle that is legally parked. Only issue is that the car's tabs are expired.

Is this a valid ticket? Can City of Portland legally enforce Washington state law?

As always, axing for a fren.

The law is probably something like:

"All cars on public roadways must have current valid registration"

So the Oregon law would apply regardless of where the car should be registered

I do feel safer knowing your fren was ticketed- many thanks to that brave officer !!!

If your tags are expired you weren't legally parked.

Digging your free the people / fuck the government revolutionary spirit

The sad truth is if the ticket is ignored, Oregon may eventually contact Washington DMV to suspend OP's license

OP will be stopped for tail light out and learn his license is not valid, officer may have option of towing vehicle and taking OP to jail

Just like those law and order lovers want it

Tell them to prove you drove the vehicle with expired tabs.

You'll get out of it if you want to spend the time. Unfortunately for me, it costs me more in time to fight that shit then the ticket is.

Except it's not a moving violation and so therefore there is no driver involved, only the registered owner.

Show me where is illegal to have expired tabs on a sitting vehicle.

You completely missed the point. As. Always.

If it's on a public highway any registered vehicle must have current tags on it. If not it's subject to a ticket. If it's on private property it is not subject to a citation.

And check your Wiki. I'm sure you can find it somewhere.
