I'm not a war expert but in this era dominated by drones and airstrikes why do we need more ships?

You don't prepare for peace, you prepare for war.

Russia, China, or N Korea are the real threat. We can wipe out China and N Korea from the coast line. Who says Japan allows us to use their soil to bomb their neighbors?

We need to have the ships to pull a Naval blockage for an entire region and the ability to fight an air war from the water.

Figure out a way to do it with the $560B budget in place.

You guys jerk off over cutting funding for Meals on Wheels, but can't imagine cracking down on military waste.

I had that conversation with a buddy today. He gets his insurance for like $80 a month. I say to him, you voted for a dude, if their plan goes through, your insurance will go to $500-600 a month. He's like, everyone is just scamming the system, he knows like 10 people scamming section 8 and food stamps. After my "you need better friends joke". He says a couple are his tenants (he owns a few trailers rented out to section 8 people). I'm like ok. We spend About $120 billion a year on those programs, say half is people scamming. We can save a whole $60 billion. Out of a $4 trillion budget. And Trump wants to add $54 billion to the military. He says, yeah we need that, they need better armor and shit. I'm like, WTF, really? You can't have better armor for $600 billion a year, but we can feed and house millions of people for $120 billion a year.

I ride the train a lot regionally, but cross country would be a nightmare and if I was so poor I needed to do it, I could figure it out.

Nothing we do with environment is going to matter as long as China, India, and Russia exist in the same world. A bloated money suck department if I've ever seen one.

The emphasis on cyber security and intelligence in the military budget is greatly needed. Everyone is in uproar about Russian Hacking, well then we're losing the battle and need to invest heavily in protecting our country in that department.

Couldn't care less about the wall.

Don't mind cutting funding to the state department, especially since it's noted that embassy security will be a top priority and not suffer under the cuts.

Maybe the world will respect us more when they realize how much money we throw at it.

a lot of the environmental cuts like great lakes protection is about clean water, not climate change.

not to mention cuts to science across the board. including biomed research.
