Woodward and Cohen: Still crooked as fuck
Comments

UW Athletic Director Jennifer Cohen, who stepped into the role last year, said she was unaware that there might be issues with roster reporting and was concerned by what The Times had found.
Wait, didn't the President squeal in the announcing press conference that Cohen's tenure within UW and compliance work were the reasons she got promoted in spite of having zero experience running an athletic department? -
Sounds like the Neuheisel deal. Leaked info to get her fired to bring in a competent AD.

How stupid can you get? Seriously. This dumb ass move is going to result in sanctions of some kind. Now I could care less about ROWING as a sport but using it to skirt (no pun intended) Title IX requirements is something a well run, prestigious university doesn't do. What a freakin' bush league move.
On the other hand, this mess will result in some major fat sweat for our favorite, politically correct AD hire. So that's all good. -
did someone say skirts?RaccoonHarry said:How stupid can you get? Seriously. This dumb ass move is going to result in sanctions of some kind. Wonder if Ernst or Bullis tipped off the Seattle Times -
I bet the tipping was done by Lance Lopes. I think he was pushed out when Jen was hired. He is former legal council for the Seahawks, and his brother is director of football operations at USC. Just a wild guess. I have no inside info at all... by the way, his brother was involved in getting Sark fired from USC.

Title IX is no joke....Dumb move

What do you think could reasonably come out of this? Is the football team at risk?HuskyJW said:Title IX is no joke....Dumb move

Better make a preemptive move to self-impose a men's basketball post-season ban for the next few years just in case.

Post-season ban and Lorenzo Romar forced to sell his couch.section8 said:Better make a preemptive move to self-impose a men's basketball post-season ban for the next few years just in case.

So this kind of feels like a big fucking deal... no follow up articles or responses from the A.D.? Did any national college sports writers pick up on this story?
-
Solution to this is so simple: just add a lightweight women's rowing program. Between novice and varsity team, that gets you about 40 more female student athletes. Plus, what dude on the Men's crew wouldn't want to have proximity to a bunch of cute, sub 130 lb females vs unrestricted weight class?
-
If they don't light the couch on fire Romar will just take it upon himself to keep the team disqualified for post season playgmo said:

Good speculation. I know Lopes was pissed not to get what Jen got.Thump said:I bet the tipping was done by Lance Lopes. I think he was pushed out when Jen was hired. I support the idea of Title IX ... I hate the execution of it
The problem is that football completely skews the numbers and forces some really difficult decisions for ADs ...
I would 100% endorse equality under Title IX for total men's and women's scholarships when you exclude football ... otherwise everything is rediculously apples and oranges -
Agree. Football should be excluded as it's the Golden Goose. How'd that work out for the swim team when the football program sucked and revenues were down?Tequilla said:I support the idea of Title IX ... I hate the execution of it

Title IX is great in theory, stupid in practice. All about "equal" outcomes instead of "equal" opportunity. It won't be actually equal and fair until women's field hockey packs 70k into Husky Stadium. Until then, it's all about subsidies for women's sports with zero revenue prospects that NOGAF about. Artificial equality>Equality.
-
Why can't UW just start a women's field hockey team or something like that. Why do they need to pad the crew numbers? Were they just being cheap and trying to avoid the cost of a coach and facilities for another women's sport?Tequilla said:I support the idea of Title IX ... I hate the execution of it

Hell, I'll gladly coach a UW women's ultimate frisbee team for free. I don't even mind hairy legs. -
I've said that for years. Football, being the unique revenue generating entity that it is, should stand on its own. Then give out an equal number of men's and women's scholarships for the other sports.Tequilla said:I support the idea of Title IX ... I hate the execution of it

To be clear, I don't see the sense in spending money on enterprises of any type that have zero prospects of ever generating revenue on their own, or providing a similar value or benefit to the school besides equaling out the numbers of men & women in sports. It's just tokenism, 101. And just lazy, really.RaccoonHarry said:
