Why not pick one of Gil Dobie's "big fish in small pond" teams versus one of Andy Smith's back-to-back-to-back National Champions?
-
72-3 and 70-0 or something like that. Traded ass kickings they did
-
National champs bitches!!!!1

Memorial Stadium must have been something back when CAL cared about football.
-
Back in those days Deontae Cooper was only a sophomore

I actually liked Memorial Stadium when we visited this year...helluva lot better sightlines than HS.YellowSnow said:Memorial Stadium must have been something back when CAL cared about football.

Very funny. Our mutual KOP experience is older than three of those four clips. The fourth is what I watch when I want to make myself cry, remembering what it was like to care about Cal Football. Even now, ten years later, watching Zach Follett makes me want to tackle somebody, anybody, with extreme prejudice.TierbsHsotBoobs said:

Isn't it ironic that the players actually got "paid" back in the 1950's when there was far less money - i.e., TV ad revenue - in the sport of college football?RaceBannon said:The Huskies first Rose Bowl winner versus Cal's last Rose Bowl team

Well it was different when the players were all white. You can't give these young negros money, they wouldn't know how to handle it.YellowSnow said:

Players get paid the same way today. Under the table. Player pay scandals broke up the old Pacific Coast ConferenceYellowSnow said:

I am fairly familiar with said scandal. I've had a beer in the WAC sports bar named after "Torchy"' who ran said slush fund. It was so bad the men's crew was even hit with a post season ban for 2 years. That's how the 1958 team ended up racing against the Ruskies in Leningrad. First time a US team competed in the Soviet Union and Keith Jackson called it the best single event he ever called. Lou Gellerman was in that crew along with Dick Erickson.RaceBannon said:

But Cherberg got fired and then spilled the slush fund beans to Sports IllustratedYellowSnow said:

Shouldn't this thread be in the Old Folks Home board?
*sigh*
Huskies win rather easily, say 34-17.
