Ty Jones visiting UCLA today

I think Petersen's approach is a bit misunderstood.bananasnblondes said:Meek said:so UCLA has a bunch of guys, including Ty Jones and Stephen Carr, on officials this weekend and we have nobody on campus...wtf?
UCLA has open spots. We didn't think we fid. Hard to convince kids to come visit if you don't have a spot for them.Meek said:so UCLA has a bunch of guys, including Ty Jones and Stephen Carr, on officials this weekend and we have nobody on campus...wtf?
This shit doesn't surprise me. Ty Jones's recruitment has been shady as fuck. I'm actually surprised Petersen didn't cut him loose after the Utah nonsense. By trusting the kid, UW lost out on the possibility of picking up a 3rd receiver if Jones flips.
The only possible hope is that, if it's true that UCLA is bringing in a ton of kids this weekend, it could be an opportunity for them to all just hang out in LA
He'll cut a kid loose if there is someone better he
can get. I'm pretty sure he'd take back Marlon
because he can't find a better DT. If Ty flipped
he would probably be welcomed back because
he is the best WR prospect. Wedington not so
much because Ahmed is better. This offing
a kid when they commit and then take visits
is flexible depending on the kid. -
The back half of this recruiting cycle has been a train wreck, no other way to put it.tvoie said:How is it possible that UW was closed so incredibly horrible? This is a fucking joke.
We had a ton of elite guys locked in by summer, but the problem with that has become that those elite guys are the flakiest with their commitments. Pete recognized the talent on some of these guys (like Connor and Ty) before other schools and the TBS scene really got onto them, but didn't anticipate that they'd get bombarded later on in the process and flake.
It's almost as if the whole strategy of locking in these caliber of recruits early on and not late in the process is coming back to bite us in the ass. Because for so many months we aren't out there recruiting their position because Pete "respects their spot." If Marlon, Ty, Connor hadn't committed early on then we could've been exploring other options this whole time... -
He better be careful. If Petersen gets pissed and cuts him loose, he might actually have to play football at UCLA.
-
Well he's now following a bunch of UCLA commits which is never good.

You hit the nail on the head. The problem with signing these guys early is they get bored watching their friends get to go take visits and be wined and dined. UW is going to have to tweak their process or watch the top talent go elsewhere. And why the hell are they not having an OVs this weekend. Take some shots on big time guys who haven't visited?NEsnake12 said:

The early signing period is going to help us so much next year.tvoie said:

This was three days ago. Hoping he just wants a free trip LA.

There's more to it than that. The last month of recruiting is a chaotic feeding frenzy. Some coaches are slick sharks that know how to sell a kid in that intense "kill-or-be-killed" environment.NEsnake12 said:

Cardboard Pete's "built for life" and "honor your word" style is a great long term motto to live by, but not a winning formula during this four-week utter shit storm. Last year he enjoyed a quiet final few weeks, lucky for him and us. This year he finds himself in a cage match, and he's not good at it.
I'm glad he's our coach, just saying it helps to have a guy that knows how to fucking close at the 11th hour...hard.

I can barely handle the twists and turns, the ups and downs, and the curveballs of TBS'ing anymore.
Think I'm going to run around for some perspective

I don't know if it will change much. NowCokeGreaterThanPepsi said:

the signing period can actually stretch from
Feb.1 to April 1. Next year when early signing
moves to December the prime recruits can still
stretch it till February. Same drama. Would have
benefitted UW much more if June signing would have
been adopted.
