Wilcox?

As difficult as it must be to play for Sark, it must really suck to coach under him. Might this explain, in part, disappointing defensive performance in conference play? Or, is Wilcox just not good enough?

Better than average. Might be really good if he worked for a REAL head coach.
-
I think Wilcox is proving that he's an average DC. He's not Nick Holt awful but he's not this elite DC that many in here have propped him up to be.
I noticed postgameorangeslices stopped posting in here after claiming Wilcox was a top 5 DC in the nation and he proceeded to shit the bed the following two weeks. Yesterday's defensive performance wasn't very good either. -
Assistant coaches under a bad to average head coach have a low ceiling. I still think Wilcox is a great DC but he needs to get the fuck out from under skippy or it's going to set his career trajectory back about five years for every one spent here.

Good, not great

I think you guys need to wait til Wilcox gets his guys in here. You act like 0-12 didn't happen 6 years ago.

I agree. He's between good and great, but he works for a retarded head coach. With a real head coach, there's no way he gives up 52 to ASU. Take out that game, and he's been good. Oregon demolished him too, but Oregon has fucked up every team this year.chuck said:Assistant coaches under a bad to average head coach have a low ceiling. Right. After the first drive, Sark went 3 and out or turned it over every series until halftime. That's what led to the wheels coming off.TierbsHsotBoobs said:

Yeah Sark's offense was Sarktarded that day, but Wilcox's defense sucked too.
-
It wasn't good, I agree. The tackling was especially bad. I just think it would have been a lot different if they weren't put in bad positions the entire half. If Sark was not fucktarded, it would have been a below average (28-35 points) rather than 52.TierbsHsotBoobs said:

The offense can suck AND the defense can play bad too. UW had 20 missed tackles that day and flat out quit.RoadDawg55 said:

Wilcox defense didn't come to play. I mean UW opens the 2nd half with a TD, then UW immediately gives up a TD after a boneheaded penalty.
The defense was awful for a good two game stretch. We've also seen this from Wilcox last year.
I think assistant coaches get too much credit and too much blame myself. If we had a good head coach I wouldn't mind keeping Wilcox as DC. I just don't think he's some savior either.
I'm luke warm on Wilcox is what I'd say. -
Hills just has no idea of the damage that Seven has done. Wilcox just needs time.
Look, I know this basically amounts to doog logic. Some people just let the bottom line speak for itself. It's probably smarter that way. I can't help factoring in the other circumstances. I've seen UWs defense play better in spells than it has since the 90s. They look fast, confident and hit hard. They rarely keep it together for a whole game and sometimes the meltdowns are epic (ASU, 2012 AC, 2012 at Arizona). I think it's symptomatic and comes from the head man, so I guess I'm making excuses for Wilcox.
I'm new at this, and perhaps I just need more time. Or maybe I should just DIAFF. -

This is the basic problem. . .too much hype when Sark came in, too much hype when Wilcox came in. Sark clearly is not the answer. Given what the program had gone through with TW, Sark was a big gamble that hasn't, nor in my opinion, will pay-off. Wilcox remains a bit of a mystery as a DC, or future HC. He's had some good games and some poor games.
My best case scenario would have been to lose to California yesterday, Sark gets fired, Wilcox is promoted to interim HC and we get to see if he's got what it takes to move the program to a much higher level.
While that was going on we could have put out the message we were looking for a top-tier HC. Now we have to just keep going week by week with Seven. I hate this.
Fuck. -
You never make a possible candidate the interim head coach. Then you are stuck with him like UW was with Lambo and Gilby.tracker said:

I didnt give up on wilcox being a top dc until the asu game. That was a dreckfest of epic proportions. Though I still think most of the defensive woes stem from Sark's inability to maintain drives worth 2 cents, much less his government millions -
If Kirby Smart and Wilcox changed places the results would be the same at each school

If Justin worked for Saban, it wouldn't surprise me to see him be the best DC in the game. He has massively improved our D. Also, it's important with last night's score to remember that when we're looking at JW2 vs. NH2 that the last 7 points were given up by 2s... NHs Ds gave up points with 1s in the game.TierbsHsotBoobs said:Better than average. Might be really good if he worked for a REAL head coach.
I don't think JW is perfect, but I think he's damn good. I think Sark is the problem... if JW weren't hired last year and we'd had Holt again, CSS would've been fucked.
