They were not prepared to play. Nor were they dialed in. Scrap all the NFL BS talk.
The Ross reverse on 2nd and 1 on the first drive of the game to kill the momentum? Was massively deflating. Knew we were in trouble after that joke of a play call.
Has John Smith learned nothing? Either Teddy was gone or he took the training wheels off and said you are on your own kid.
Brownshorts given a yuge wake up call.
The defense played well enough to win.
Vita Vea though is turning into of one my favorite players.

Jake just chucking the ball downfield all second half was crazy. Trying to get it all in one play. Plus he was off.
Coleman two carries. Are you kidding me? What a joke. Two carries is embarrassing.

UW played soft zone coverage in the middle of the field. They couldn't get past USC's OLine yet somehow everyone else in the conference was able to. They didn't run the ball, this offense is great at run blocking and poor with pass blocking, I don't know how that's not blatantly obvious to the team at this point... yet Browning was running for his life time and time again because the coaches didn't know what to do or how to adjust.
If the UW coaching staff knew that this was going to be a low scoring game (like they said) then why were they in such a hurry to throw a bunch of jank school yard plays at an athletic USC defense that just quickly gave the ball back to the USC offense. If this was going to be a low scoring game then the Huskies should have been limiting possessions and running the football to shorten the game. Statistically USC would be more likely to turn the ball over as well as with a hostile environment they would be more likely to make communication errors. I feel that Wittingham would've beat this USC team coaching this Husky team with a gameplan that utilized Washington's strength's instead of just going toe-to-toe with a far more physical and athletic team. -
Agree completely in the 2nd and 1 call. This sounds like hyperbole but I bet we win the game if we just ran it up the middle there. Being able to catch Ross and drop him for an 8 yard loss there not only stopped a drive where we were moving it easily, it gave their defense a ton of confidence and fired them up. When you treat every 2nd and short as a free play (like Smith seems to do), you are giving your offense only 2 plays to get a first down more often than not.jecornel said:Mustered at home. You dont lose at home. Not like that. SC wanted it more. UW shut down the same players last year with a senior QB.

another play that stood out to me immediately as huge was when Psalm took a terrible angle at Darnold and instead of containing him, he went inside and let Darnold roll out and get a key first down.
Of course that bullshit 15 yard personal foul for the USC player who flopped was big early too. -
Spot on. Why as a play caller would you choose make your job so hard? Reverses are great against shitty teams per say Cal?bananasnblondes said:

My biggest complaint is this team is fucking soft ... USC had a chip on the shoulder, why get fucking cute? Power formation pro sets, play action pass, Run Lavon right at them, 4-5 yards a play, rest the defense, time of possession, over the top to your double tight end sets with Daniels split wide... mixed in with Ross deep to keep the honest, not that fucking hard.
And I'm utterly disappointed in Pete's defensive schemes against a RS Frosh, should have blized him early and often to keep his shit tight -

It's that after last year and some of the BS that was seen it was clear that Smith was in way over his head as an OC in this conference ...
Then we have a very successful offense through 9 games this year when Babushka is being "mentored" by Jeff Tedford (who is a proven play caller in this league) where the offense looks like it has an identity and a plan ...
The week that Tedford takes the Fresno St job, the offense all of a sudden morphs back into the 2015 shit show where Smith is in way over his head with his fucktarded random play generator ...
You want a few reasons to know why Smith was fucktarded:
1) Best offense that we've had all year was 2 TE sets ... I saw a lot more 3 wide last night
2) You don't out-athlete USC ... you line up and play North/South and not East/West particularly in the running game ... we ran a lot of running plays East/West
3) The first 2 plays of the game were misdirection ... then the Ross reverse which in fairness was a big play if Ross got by the solo tackler out there ... but after that the misdirection vanished for most of the night
4) How many times did we line up under center last night? A lot easier to run North/South when under center ... -
A million POTD on why Smith was fucktarded. On some level I've watched the numbers Jake has put up and think Smith (and CP) have chased the Heisman talk for him, and have helped it along by throwing it more than needed when running it would have gotten the same result and taken time off the clock.Tequilla said:

IE they want to prove their system of "calling plays" can work at the highest level of cfb, even if that's the harder way to go about doing it.

Better game plan, better coaching.
Watch the replay and you will see where the UW offense moved the chains and when they did not. It's painfully blatant. -

Imagine how well this team would be with a COMPETENT OC!
Imagine 10-0, where UW would be without the shitty OC we have.
UW is top 5 because of it's talent, despite it's play calling. Even Grandpa Sankey can see that. -
It is amazing in football what happens when you commit to an offensive philosophy that chooses to go vertical vs. horizontal. Did they pick up early in the game what was happening to Gaskin on stretch plays with their defense?TurdBuffer said:

John Smith lives in some sort of bubble if he couldn't pick up on that early in the game. There is no f'ing way Tedford was there.
Pete bounced Pease, its clear who is next. -
@GRG: To me, this is one of those situations where the stats aren't telling the real story. Ross and Pettis have played amazing, which makes Jake look good, which makes the OC look good. But look at all the under-thrown, late, fluttering long balls Jake has thrown - dare I say "lemons" - that Ross or Pettis have turned into lemonade. Stats overlook that stuff.GreenRiverGatorz said:

Way back when, in the early 80's, a freak of nature acrobat named Paul Skansi made Steve Pelluer look good, time and time again, despite the QB's tendency to overthrow or under-throw everything. Eventually Rose Bowl winning Pelluer lost his job to Tim Cowan, who threw bbs on time and on target, including a heart stopping, last play of the game TD to win the Aloha Bowl in '82, if I remember right.
Point is not to criticize so much as to accurately diagnose the problem. Stats don't do that. Eyes do. -
Think of this... had we not run that stupid play and gotten a first down, we'd still have Victor playing. Time would have shifted, the play he got injured in wouldn't have happened, and I'd still want to fire Smiff out of a cannon into the supports of any bridge of your choosing.bananasnblondes said:

We don't even have to imagine. It's all right there "on the tape." Lateral offense is a "how to" recipe for losing to SC.
