Haven't been lurking as much of late but hadn't heard it talked about...
If you would have told me 2 years ago that Cory Littleton was going to get an invite to the combine, I would have laughed in your face and called you the doogliest doog that ever dooged.
I already kind of hated him under Sark and it seemed inevitable that I was going to despise him with a passion by his junior year and pull a Dennis with my TV every time I saw him on TV his senior year. So for the sake of my televisions (and my sanity) I was hoping that Sark would find some more shiny new toys to play with for a couple years until I could start to hate them and continue the circle of a doog's life.
But then Peterman happened. It was the damndest thing. Players getting better? I had started to cherish a kid's freshman season because I knew it would be his best. This whole concept was extremely confusing to me. Players aren't supposed to develop and improve over time. They're supposed to get worse during the time Ivan gets a hold of 'em until they graduate or Sark drops them for a shiny new toy only to flourish in another system. But regardless of the path they took to get there, my hatred of them would usually be at a boiling point when they eventually departed. And now this shit? Cory Littleton at the combine? Travis Feeney actually improving after a promising freshman season and initially sticking to the script his sophomore year? Tani Tupou actually having a pulse? Siofissaa Toefungus starting on the OL and not wanting to vomit after every play? John Motherfucking Timu starting in the NFL by the end of his rookie season? Seriously. What the fuck is this shit? All I know is it's scaring me. Something must be wrong.

Younger fans have no idea what a good football program with real, competent adults running the show looks like.
Petersen and his staff (most of it anyway), fit that profile. -
Well said, but Peterman still has to show it on the field. Win or GTFO.

Agree with the general premise, just not with a few of these guys. Littleton started his sophomore year and had a pretty good year. He had 60 tackles and 5 sacks and was active. His biggest problem was not finishing plays. He was certainly on track to earn an invite before getting benched his junior year with Petersen. 350 players are invited to the combine and and 256 are drafted. Littleton is a fringe guy. I don't really feel anything one way or the other about a combine invite.
Timu was the same player under Petersen he was under Sark. A middling LB. Coaches always seemed to really like him though. It was definitely a surprise he made a roster, but I don't really care because he was never very good at UW under Sark or Petersen. Victor was a huge upgrade.
I'm not sure how good Tufunga is/was. I do know that there was nobody else that could play behind him. Brostek has always been terrible, Crane sucked and was injured. The other interior lineman were almost all freshmen.
Tupou, Shelton, Andrew Hudson and a few others made amazing improvements under the new staff. Nobody on offense really has though and we are still average. The development has been a little better, but I don't think it's been amazing by any means. -

I expect that to come next season, but if it doesn't, I'll be disgruntled as fuck.

It has definitely been encouraging seeing the improvements of guys like Littleton, Kikaha, Topou, etc. over the last two years. And yes, the "player development" needs to show up in the win-loss column.
What gives me an even bigger boner, though, has been seeing the performance of guys like Gaines, Sydney Jones, Gaskin, and Baker. The highly recruited guys have performed at or above where we thought they would and some of the lower ranked recruits have performed far better than anyone could have guessed. Azeem is another guy who has emerged as an absolute monster. Even though he was a Sark guy, he was lightly recruited and looks like a 5 star guy out there.
In sum, i'm dooging, the future is bright and 201? will be special...unless it won't be -
Paging doog it up......paging doog it up......

Well stated. The real reason to doog is that Victor, Jones, Baker, Gaines, Qualls, and Bierria are all good players. The guys that we expected to be good are good and there are some surprises with guys we didn't expect much out of like Victor, Bierria, Gaines, and BBK.bananasnblondes said:It has definitely been encouraging seeing the improvements of guys like Littleton, Kikaha, Topou, etc. over the last two years.
