I personally don't think it will ever happen, for obvious reasons. If it does, it will likely be watered down B.S.
But if anyone could do it, it would be Inarritu -
I heard it was problematic. Heroic white male conquers the frontier, like.

Sounds like Leo needs to check his Oscars privilege!

Pretty sure Blood Meridian won the OFFICIAL HHBv1.0 book club book of the century award...so they better not fuck it up. -
No Country for Old Men was awesome. I actually liked the movie more than the book.ThomasFremont said:

That said, it's really different from Blood Meridian.
Anton Chigurh and The Judge have a lot in common, though.
Shave Javier Bardem's head and have him be Judge Holden -

Leo just got raped by a bear, and he's gonna win an Oscar.
Django Unchained and 12 Years a Slave were violent and brutal. Oscar nominees.
Any of the fucked up stuff can still get in under the "it's ok because that was the olden days" clause. -

Perhaps, I just dont think a movie would be able to portray it with an R rating.
its been a while since ive read it, but it was ridiculously fucked up. -

It really is, and the whole delving in to the darkest nature of lawless humanity is intriguing. It's a tired subject that has been done to death, but Blood Meridian stands apart in a lot of ways.
Was reading stuff online about how parts of how the Revenant was filmed would be great in a Blood Meridian movie adaption, which is why I brought it up.
James Franco directed a 30 minutes "test filming" of a Blood Meridian scene you can look up, which is pretty cringe-worth to be honest. -

I think the darkness/violence is ok, even bordering on mainstream, as long as it is a compelling and unique story. -

I still need to see this one. I've heard good things
As for darkness/violence being more mainstream, I'd agree. Could the violence be done like it is in the book? Doubt it.
The violence in the book, combined with McCarthy's poetic writing style, is pretty surreal. Would be tough to get that trippy feeling conveyed into a movie.
Definitely not by Franco LOL -

The Revenant was over long but fantastic. The first throat arrow was awesome and the bear fight looked spectacular. -
Just re-watched Gone Baby Gone. Great movie. No Country For Old Men - great movie. American Hustle -great movie.
Mad Max Fury Road - things go boom and people fall off trucks. Not great movie.

Any movie where Charlize Theron doesn't show her spectacular naked body can hardly be considered 'great'.Swaye said:

The thing about Mad Max Fury Road is they took so many risks in how it was shot, paced, and conceptualized and knocked it out of the park on every single one.
Throbber is right to some extent, it has every excuse to be a high production B movie but it's executed so well it refuses to stoop to that level.
Something like a flame thrower metal guitar shredding warboy bouncing around on a bungie chord platform while people are getting murdered everywhere shouldn't hold up, but it does and it's fucking awesome. -
Exactly why we need a Lord of the Flies reboot starring Shia LeBouf.PostGameOrangeSlices said:ThomasFremont said:

I'm with you on Mad Max, but American Hustle was just generic Oscar bait.
