I thought Dan Dicks would end up being pretty good but, like Colin Porter, Ben Riva and Dex Charles recently, the injuries piled up and he had to retire.

Neuheisel was such a star f'er...that 2002 class was high on stars and low on actual above average Pac-12 guys:

Evaluation matters too. The TBS recruiting consensus isn't a terrible indicator of talent, but it gets plenty wrong too.

And, not to sound like Petersen, but evaluating character and motivation matters too.

Let's take the case of Kavario Middleton. The guy came in as one of our highest rated players ever, but he was a complete weakling and was totally lacking in the work ethic necessarily to get stronger and better.
I'm sorry to bash the kids, but if you have ever met Middleton you know he's a dickhead. If he was tough, it would be fine, but he's was Charmin soft on the field. He did have great hands though. His size and hands let him dominate at the high school level, but he didn't have the speed or quickness to be a true threat in college. If he wasn't a pussy he could have been a huge blocking TE with great hands.

    The next 30:

31 Deontae Cooper - Worst luck ever. Now a Junior/Senior and collecting Social Security
32 Joe Mathis - All hair team. Edgy. Might turn out to be decent, but looking overrated so far.
    33 Chris Izbicki - Worthless
34 James Sample - Transfered to Louisville. Pretty good there
35 Everrette Thompson - Decent player, at best. Overrated
36 Eric Kohler - Fell apart physically. Didn't suck when healthy. Injury bust.
37 Brandon Wellington - Bargain basement Shaq T?
    38 Cameron Elisara - EGADS!
39 Sean McGrew - Pigmentationally challenged former star of Little People, Big World
40 K.J. Carta-Samuels - Best UW double-wing QB since Gil Dobie prowled the sidelines
41 Benning Potoae - Potato the Elder was disappointing
42 Austin Joyner - *fingers crossed*
43 Jermaine Kelly - Disappointing. Transferred.
44 Isaiah Gilchrist - Slightly less athletic Buda Baker, hopefully.
45 Kevin Smith - Late bloomer as a WR. Now in NFL. Next Kearse?
46 John Ross - Fast and explosive. Maybe he'll learn to play WR
47 Jeff Lindquist - He is a good student and Swedish.
48 Henry Roberts - Hopefully more Steve Schilling than Dan Dicks
49 Pio Vatuvei - It is always 420 somewhere.
50 Alameda Ta'amu - NFL Player. Probably ranked about right.
51 Bishop Sankey - He was actually underrated. Top 4 UW RB of all time.
52 Luke Wattenberg - A highly rated OL from California? Is this a typo?
53 Kenny James - He was okay. Possibly overrated. Played on bad teams.
54 Marcel Reece - When you can recruit a future pro bowl fullback, you do it, even as a WR.
55 Dashon Goldson - Very good player who played on atrocious defenses. Long time NFL player.
56 Keauntea Bankhead - Jayson Bass Award Winner
57 E.J. Savannah - Probably would have been pretty good with decent coaching
58 Stanley Daniels - Well spoken wireless internet salesman
    59 John Lyon - Poor man's Izbicki
60 J.R. Hasty - First Team All Dipshit

I feel like I'm reading one of my own poasts. Well done.

I have heard that his max bench press as a HS senior started with a 1.

Keep in mind, the 247 composite rankings has much less data on the previous classes because it is only using one source versus the latter ones which are a true composite of 4 systems. It's impossible to adjust for with just this data, but you can consider there to be quite a bit more deviation and variation between the 2000-2006 classes versus the 2007-2016 classes due to the increased number of observations for each ranking. Also, the methodologies of evaluating and ranking players has changed over time, so it's difficult to compare across a 15-year period.

It really isn't much, but I just wanted to bitch because I was thinking about posting this data over the weekend.

He was a 3 star. Maybe a high 3 star, but definitely not in the top 60.
