Murphy to start out at WR?

I know Renfro was a freshman, but 25 receptions is probably more likely than 50. He's a solid player, but I agree with Chuck that he's probably not exceptional.

Something interesting that I saw in the s+p stat drop was that Renfro has a really high catch to target percentage. Jaydon, Pettis, and Hall had shitty ratios whereas the tight ends did pretty well, so that gives me some hope that he has enough physicality and that he'll turn out ok.

If that's true, it just shows how shitty he is at running routes and getting open.AEB said:

Not quite. He near the top of the non-TEs. Renfro was actually slightly higher, but was targeted half as often as Lenius.AEB said:

Lenius played a lot of snaps as basically a starting WR who was never out with injury, but was only targeted 35 times in 13 games.
Compare that to D. Washington who split time at running back and missed all of five games, but was targeted 30 times. -

Murphy is a gifted receiver and has really great small-space quickness. In his senior film (what little there is of it), it looks like he got a bit lazy and started letting the ball get into his body when he caught it.
In his junior film, the guy is impressive catching the football away from his body and high-pointing with strong hands and quickly tucks and runs.
In terms of after the catch stuff, the kid is definitely gifted there as well.
The best 'after-the-catch' guy we've had in the post-modern (post 2001) era is John Ross. Murphy isn't close to John Ross, but Ross is special. I don't exactly know who would be #2, but he has a chance to be #2. He can definitely make people miss.
Reminds me of an old-school 'Flanker'.
We* don't need him on defense in my opinion. If you look at our depth at DB, he's somewhat superfluous... this year he would be no better than our 4th CB at best.
2016: Jones, King, Gardenhire, Joyner, Miller, Lewis... ... ... Love, Murphy?
Next year, we have some holes depending on how Joyner develops, as Sid and King are gonezo.
2017: Gardenhire, Joyner, Love... ...?
Our WRs are a big mystery because I think all of us know that Ross could be incredible. Pettis and Lenius have flashed, but played like dog-shit last year. Renfro flashed, can he be actually good?
Right now, it looks like our X is Lenius, our Z is Pettis and our Y is Ross. We are obviously hoping that Renfro is an X, but beyond that, we've got nothing. Murphy could easily be one of our top performers at WR this year.
Given all that, I think you put him at WR. -
It's too bad that Lenius didn't redshirt. And it's even more too bad that he was one of the Top 3 WRs on this team last season.
The guy is a natural pass catcher but is super raw. He only played one season of real HS football (Canada doesn't count, unless we are talking hockey or lacrosse).
If he had red-shirted and didn't have two years wasted being coached by Pease, he'd probably have a better shot at developing his potential.
He ought to be a reliable possession receiver, red-zone threat and dominating outside blocker by next year. At this point, I'd be impressed if he could become even one of those things. -
Fuck Lenius. He is a huge pussy that doesn't think or care.

Murphy's hands are stiffer then Fatters' cock after a chili cook off.
His will to play WR is smaller then Smiffs IQ
