    Here's the deal ...

Petersen tried to reward Smith with a stretch hire that he thought he was capable of. The results in Year 1 showed growing pains and the hope was that Year 2 would show a more balanced and experienced OC. Smith is well on the way to failing in that regard. Now it's on Petersen to make the associated change when needed.

That change isn't happening during the season.

Making stretch hires isn't uncommon ... everybody needs to have someone believe in them to make them advance in their career. Further, it's not uncommon that you fail at some point and have to do some self-reflection to learn from some mistakes.

Bottom line though is that this all comes back down to Petersen making the tough call during the offseason.

    Hi.

The change was needed after last season.

I know it doesn't fit your narrative, but please show me where I'm rolling out of the doog playbook.

I think a few on this board are rolling with the petulant toddler playbook. Knee jerk reactions and consistent overlooking of facts that don't fit their slant resulting in a FYFMFE tirade. It's as predictable as the biased media.

I used to actually think you understood managing a program.

I think parts of Petersen have sucked. But to just attach the "suck" label to a guy that has recruited well and is clearly having a positive impact on culture is superficial, and frankly stupid.
    4-6 sucks.

    Hope this helps.

I expected and still expect 7-5 (at least) and I can remember people talking about 4-5 wins during the never-ending offseason.

I'm withholding the big rants for a month or so, partially due to apathy. If the offense is still sputtering in November, tip of the hat to Race and Sven for calling it early.

I still doog for Browning and a few guys on defense, but that's about it right now. I'd still be doogin for Pete if he had half a brain and fired Smith last year.

Smith wasn't getting fired last year ... deserved or not.

That's what real head coaches do.
Can you name some examples of "real" head coaches who fired one of their coordinators in year one? I'm not intending to be a smart ass, but I don't know of any.

Real coaches usually don't hire coordinators that need to be fired in year one.

I'm still waiting for your answer. I'm not the dumb fuck who said, "That's what real head coaches do."

Here's a better question: Are there any REAL head coaches out there that had to fire a coordinator after year one or two?

Sark hired Holt and had to fire him and he sucks

Petersen hired Smith and will have to fire him bu hasn't and he is the answer

We are on the verge of the second epic True Troll.

Sark is Rick without a Rose Bowl and

    Sark is better than Petersen

Taking over Owen12 and going 5-4 every year is better than taking over 5-4 and going 4-5 every year

    4-5 > 4-5 > 5-4 > 5-4 > 5-4 > 5-4

    Everybody says so.
