So many comments ripping Jonathan Smith
and a few on Petersen. Probably a 10-1 ratio.
Isn't Petersen the architect and Smith the construction
manager? How does the building guy put together
a nice building from a crappy set of plans? I know
I belong in the special eddie class but maybe you
folks can edicate me on organizational structure.
I didn't realize the OC was higher placed than the head coach.

Petersen is supposedly more hands off with his coaches, although he certainly helps plan the offense. Smith is also the one calling the plays. And since Petersen had a good offense as the OC of Boise and as head-coach with both Zebransky and Moore, I think a lot of people are thinking it is the play calling and the OC. Although maybe Pete just lost his touch and the planning sucks as well. Or abundance.
God I shudder when you say he is hands off
with his coaches. Maybe that's okay with a highly
established, successful OC but certainly J. Smith
wouldn't fit that category. Ok the play calling ain't
pretty but to me it's more fundamental. This has to
be the most uncreative running scheme ever.
Absolutely no deception or mis-direction to keep the defence
guessing. DC's must be licking their chops to play against this
offense. To make matters worse, it looks like a pass first offense
when it should be exactly the opposite. That's on Petersen.
Why do you say it is pass first? I don't know enough to say if the run scheming is bad, but they ran 22 times and were throwing more in the second half because they were down by 16 points. I am not sure it is really a pass first offense, although it may be a crappy run first offense.

When Sark fires Wilcox to save his job he'll get ripped here.

When Sark fired Holt he got ripped.

When Ty fired Baer he got ripped.

It's Petersen. He hired that fuck

Simple fact, case closed, end of discussion.

Quite honestly, most of the Doogs here are afraid to admit the reality that the head coach is responsible for this mess.

Spot on. I think collectively everyone needs it to be Smiff's fault or we have to come to the Realization that if Petersen is the one fucking this up this program is going to be shitty to mediocre until the end of time.

I personally cant bring myself to face that yet. So...Smiff's the idiot. For now.
That pretty much sums it up.

Petersen also hired Kwiatkowski and the special teams coach, both of whom did well on Friday night. Plus he has overseen some pretty good recruiting the last 18 months.

With Petersen it's been mostly good. Smith? Not so much.

It's been revealing to see Dawg fans hating on Smith. BSU fans had the very same hatred for Robert Prince. The common denominator is Coach Pete's 2013-present offense. It's not what made him great.

    sigh
