There's been a couple of HH posts in the last month about Joel Dublanko. Maybe this highlight reel of his high school, USA team, track & gym workouts and 7on7 team will help answer questions/concerns that some people have about him...

Honestly, he looks like a EWU level guy to me, but what do I know?

Looks like he's working hard to elevate his game.
Is he a legit 6'3"? I see him more as a 3-4 DE or a 4-3 SDE than an MLB. Didn't seem like he had the read-recognition and explosiveness to shoot gaps often and his biggest strength is occupying blockers, shedding them, and then delivering a big hit which would is probably best suited as a 3-4 DE over the RT / TE. That was just from watching that highlight reel though.
Do you think Oregon State might offer? -
I made it through about 3 minutes of the video ...
1) He's clearly bigger, stronger, faster than the players he's playing against ... yet he doesn't appear to dominate the competition in really any of those aspects. He tends to stand-up blocks and waits to shed them instead of attacking and blowing them up.
2) HFNY pointed out that he seemed to lack read-recognition and I tend to agree.
3) What he did show a decent ability to do was deliver big hits and a reasonable motor if you look at it from the position that he SHOULD be playing not the position he IS playing
All in all, he seems like a guy that is playing out of position. Many good DE's started as HS RBs or LBs before outgrowing themselves and needing to transition to the line. While he doesn't necessarily look like he's got explosive quickness to him, I did see enough good things with his feet to think that there's at least something to work with. In the days of no scholarship limits, this is someone that you put on your roster, give 2-3 years to figure it out, and see if you can make him into a good player. But that was 30+ years ago. Now you're looking at a guy that is probably a lower half PAC offer for teams that can afford to take more of a higher risk/reward proposition or someone that probably fits in better playing in the Mountain West or WAC. Regardless, I don't see LB in his future ... it's as a DE. -
This isn't the WAC petersen...

After hearing about this kid for the past few years, this is the first time I've seen game film of him. He is clearly not a LB, not nearly enough speed. Compare and contrast his game film with Bryce Sterk. It ain't even close. His future is with his hand in the dirt, but I'm not sure he has the explosiveness to play DE in the P12.
-
I don't see him as a LB, but I could see him as a FB as a lead blocker or during short-yardage situations. DE is probably where he'll end up though since no one really uses the FB anymore.

This about sums it up for me. -
Well hopefully JD plays football on scholarship somewhere.
I think I'm more interested in this guy, especially since it's not the best year for ILBs on the West Coast (and UCLA already nabbed two guys we wanted). He might even be a fit at the Rush / Husky position depending on how he develops from his JR to SR year:

I dunno the way we are seeing guys get huge with a real S&C program, this guy could easily be 6-3 285 and jacked after a RS year.

Defensive Tackle?

Still too Ukrainian.

Give me 3 lunch pail guys and film room junkies at LB like Ben-Hurr Kirr in every class and I will be happy. As long as they BLEED!!!!11!!! purple

I think that might actually be his first committable offer.Tequilla said: -
I'll never understand non-committable offers to kids. It really isn't an "offer" if the kid can't commit. It's just a dickish way of saying, "we like you, but we don't like you enough".CokeGreaterThanPepsi said:

Think of it like an employer contacting you after an interview and saying, "you have the job, except we're waiting to hear back from about 5 or 6 other better candidates first". -
Eastern almost beat us. Eastern probably said "I don't know. Looks like a UW guy to me."Dennis_DeYoung said:Honestly, he looks like a EWU level guy to me, but what do I know?

kinda sad how far he has fallen
(faggy smile to show how clever I am)
