Jack Lockner retires

But I think even Roadie would have to admit, Jake's Ferndale team would have beaten PLU.RoadDawg55 said:

Yeah, good for him to find someone dumb enough to pick him 8th. If you feel that way, you might as well give Jamarcus Russell and every other QB bust props then too.

Seems like locker is pretty well educated and smart kid, so that 5 could have grown greatly over the last 4-5 years.Tequilla said:He made $12.5M with his rookie deal. When you factor in taxes, agent fees, etc., he probably is walking away with over $5M easily.
I'm sure he'll have some kind of tie-in to the UW one way or another. I don't think he'll be hurting for money. He'll always be viewed fondly by the UW community.
I said that about locker b/c he stayed in school, finished his degree, made an incredible amount of connections in the community, still had the ability to play baseball and get paid while doing it, and yes, has never been in trouble on or off the field, hasn't had any substance abuse problems we have been aware of, and overall has been a good person in all the communities he has lived in. It has nothing to do with his color.
There is something to be said for someone finishing school, having a brain, and not getting into trouble. If you can't understand how being a QB from UW with all the $ boosters who are in this community could be a resource for a player after football I don't know how to help you. He is well spoken enough to do broadcasting, possibly get into coaching or tap any number of resources available without getting his brains beat in. -

Really? Because his UW teammates like him? This is as bad as Brents and other FS posters who chime in that Ty (or Sark, or Lambo) know way more about football than any internet poster when they are questioned.Tequilla said:To add to what Chavez has said ... I give you the following:

I guess I'm burying myself for not sucking off a mediocre QB. Locker did nothing other than be a good athlete that was picked 8th. Disappointing college and pro careers and quit once he wasn't guaranteed a starting job. Oh, but he's a great guy who represented the community well and he has money. Let's praise on the guy for having the courage to retire. -

But in all seriousness, you've been running your mouth about how his lack of heart is why he hasn't won shit since HS. That's your position. I'm not putting words into your mouth when I say that.
My point being that you have 3 guys making tweets today that are tied to guys that have had some level of success in the NFL. All 3 of them apparently have a ton of respect for Jake. I'm about 99.9% sure that you don't get fellow teammates to respect you as a teammate with the kind of endorsements that they were giving in their tweets without having heart.
I don't see why it is so hard for you to understand that you're looking at a situation where Jake's been beat up over the last 8 years to the point that he looked at his bank account, his family, and his quality of life and decided that he valued the latter two far more than he valued his career in football ... particularly when you consider that his likely job going forward was going to be holding a clipboard.
Let's be honest, almost every single person on this board would love to be in that position where you can make decisions for the rest of your life based off of what it is that you want to do and not because of the fact that if you decided to do that you'd run out of the ability to fund that lifestyle. -
The only Jake Locker highlight that matters in my book. No way Chip would have turned this into a safety.

He has had asset managers with strong ties to U-Dub manage his money since he went pro so his money has been working for him (rather than being spent on hookers, blow, and other fast depreciating assets).
I hope he works with the UW in some capacity or gets into coaching.RoadDawg55 said:

Not saying that you have to talk about how great he is or was as a player. He had warts. He had strengths. He had good moments. He had bad moments. Whatever.
You're burying yourself for the bolded parts. What's the point of that? Would you do something completely different if you were in his shoes? Would you take the free money to do something that you weren't totally into? Particularly if that came at the expense of your happiness and possibly negatively impacted your family?
There's more important things in life. I give Jake the kudos for being man enough to make the decision. I give Jake kudos for being smart enough to prepare for this day in a way that he had the option to make the decision. I give Jake kudos for realizing that happiness is more important than money. The world would be a better place if more people were able to make decisions accordingly. -
It should be the Ohio State game, the Notre Dame game or the LSU game - ones where he played incredibly well against top teams. I'll let Woody decide which Div 3 team will do.HeretoBeatmyChest said:Biggest group blow job of all time will be when he's a husky legend this year.
What game is it? -
Lockner is a complete fucking idiot. This has been documented. Ask the guy who did his history homework.
-
I love Jake. I love that he hung in there for us...
Not a very good NFL QB....
But he got paid. And in the end that's what matters ... -
He's got more money than you and it appears from HFNY that he's been smart about what he's done with it after the fact.allpurpleallgold said:Lockner is a complete fucking idiot. This has been documented. Ask the guy who did his history homework.
You can call him an idiot all you want ... he'll laugh to the bank. -
RoadDawg already pointed this out but you've spent this entire thread in Brents territory.Tequilla said:

I'm not calling him an idiot. I'm stating a fact.
He's got more money than me. Oh gee. Must be a genius then. And Kim Kardashian is a fucking rocket surgeon. Shut the fuck up. -
Nowhere close to Brents territory ...
People like you and RoadDawg are hating on him because in your minds you feel like he didn't maximize his talents and because you'd kill to have had such an opportunity, it pisses you off.
I look at him and see a guy that got to live his dream of going to the UW, got a degree, got drafted in the NFL, got paid in the NFL, has a great family, has been smart enough with his money to be able to decide what he wants to do on his terms for the rest of his life instead of the terms of others, and has decided that he values his family and quality of life more than football.
If you told me that I was an idiot but was able to accomplish all of the above, I'd laugh my ass off at you trying to say that I was a failure, idiot, etc. Whatever.
I guarantee you that at least 81% of this board would have no problem being that much of an idiot. -
And BTW, the reason the Kardashians are rich is a combination of the wealth of their father as a lawyer and the fact that they've somehow convinced enough people to care about their lives to the point that they get paid.
If you want to say that the way that they act, etc. is FS ... go right ahead. I'll be right there with you.
But at the same time, you'll never hear me talk about how stupid they are because the reality is that they found something to market as a business (in their case their lives) and turn it into something very, very successful. There's a lot of words that you can use for that, but stupid isn't one of them. -
He had no coach who knew what to do with him, how to use him or how to teach him. He did the best he could. Why hate on that kind of guy?

Jake Locker. Good guy (everyone says so). Mediocre QB. Kisses his Mom. With tongue. The end.

Kearse actually said he was appreciative to be apart of Jake's carreer.

Money doesn't buy you happiness. Money doesn't buy you the ability to have a conscious. -
