I no longer expect anything from our line.
-
Keep in mind everyone's ACL's are fully back to full strength after a season without Ivan. Let's give them a shot with all joints working before judging.
-
Ever. I boldly predict we'll be improved. How many times will we fall for thinking returning experience is good when the returners are shit?DeepSeaZ said:I no longer expect anything from our line.
Our RBs will be better, QB decision making can't get worse, and the new blood OL can't be worse. If i'm wrong, it doesn't matter. The line has been terrible for 15 years.
-
The line is going to suck. You can try and think Socha, Strausser, year two of Petersen... A bunch of freshman and bums like Eldenkamp, Tufunga, Coleman Shelton, and Brostek aren't going to be good.
When McGary, Burleson, Adams, Roberts, Sosabee have another year or two under their belts the OL should be good. I'm expecting it to be a dreckfest this year, average in 2016, and finally good in 2017. -
The OL will be aiight. Not good, but not bad either.
-
The OL will get help from a QB who will make decisions pre-snap, not run sideways instead of into the pocket, as well as someone who will stretch the field more than 4 yards. I don't blame miley for everything, but the OL gets a lot of blame when they had zero to work with. Blitzes all day b/c corners can be in man the entire game. A QB who regularly would run sideways under any pressure.
With better QB play and another year in the weight room it will be serviceable. -
I believe the OL prompted Pete's famous "how have you been playing for 4 years and don't know this stuff?" comment.

Meh. This is just classic confirmation bias. It's telling because we want it to be telling. But these exact comments are made by coaches every single time it's recruiting season. Sometimes they're telling, sometimes they're not. Time will tell.HuskyJW said:

Either way it will be interesting. -
Careful.........too much football discussion will lead to Derek charging a $10.95 monthly subscription fee.

I don't think the O Line will be any worse than last year from a talent perspective. If RB and QB play stayed constant from this year to next I would expect that our offensive numbers would be flat.
I do think that it really only takes an improvement in either QB or RB play to really take a lot of pressure off the O Line. Defenses just pinned their ears back against us last year because we had slow/un-instinctual running backs and a QB with a slow release and no intermediate passing consistency.
If one of the those three position groupings improves it could have a ripple effect to the others. A rising tide lifts all ships!!!(not meant to be a political statement @d2d) -
Shit. OL Bored. Belongs.ToddTurnerLIVES said:We just graduated Tanigawa, Hatchie, Atoe, Riva and Criste. A group that was perennially about to 'take the next step' until they didn't. My question: Can a group of guys with a dearth of meaningful college playing time come in and get similar production to the previous group? On the surface it seems like the expectation should be that we take a step back but the group that just graduated was really fucking mediocre:

I have never understood why it's great to have "Returning Starters" that are shitty. The bad news is THEY'RE BACK!
I'M SO HAPPY THEY'RE GONE! -
I think the OL talent of guys coming in could offset experience losses to some degree. Some of the guys you had on the OL last year looked like hefty bags filled with wet shit. Getting higher level athletes like a McGary or Adams on the field can offset the loss of an experienced beached orca like Atoe to a certain extent.
I think an equally big issue for UW - Coleman & Washington are probably in the bottom third of starting pair of Rbs in the pac12. Those two need to really step it up. -
I guess the O line might as well not show up
-

The scary part is that the OL played better once Atoe moved to RT and Coleman Shelton got benched. Eldenkamp and Kirkland couldn't even beat out Shelton.BallSacked said:I think the OL talent of guys coming in could offset experience losses to some degree. I didn't read a single post in this thread but I'd bet my house someone reference 2017 being special. This is why I love Doog hope.
Halfbrains bitch about the present while saying how good things will be two years out.
Doogs don't bitch about the present while saying how good things will be two years out.
You're the same, except for Damone, he's the only one that "gets it." -
I know you are being sarcastic...but Damone doesn't post here anymore.Mosster47 said:I didn't read a single post in this thread but I'd bet my house someone reference 2017 being special. This is why I love Doog hope.

Atoe looked awful in every game I saw him. Body and athleticism befitting of a guard, but he's 6'7" and 50 or 60 #s overweight. That's the worst combination for a CFB OL.RoadDawg55 said:

In my opinion, OL play is largely about your Left Tackle. If you can button down LT with the right athlete, the rest of the OL should fall in line, especially the G-C-G combination. If the LT is dreck, then that's a major problem. Adams and McGary look like next-level LT prospects to me, if either can hold down that spot I think the OL play will be at least 'okay'. -

Like I said, he "gets it."
It was on a day much like today. He just closed the deal on an eco-friendly shitter to some fine people at Lowe's when it suddenly hit him; Two years from now won't be special.
He moved on.

Take it to the O Line bored!
-
I'm tired of the OL excuses. I'm tired of the hyping that I read of a position that consistently under performs. I have quit factoring them in and believe if we win, we do so despite they lodestone they are for the offense.
-
I heard they are all planing on staying over the entire summer, will be working out together harder than ever before and will be ready to rumble when next year starts...
In all seriousness the OL was not really even in the top 5 of problems for the offense last year
1) A QB with the arm strength and throwing motion of a drunk Asian sorority girl
2) a QB with decision making skills that makes Jack Lockner look like a Rhodes scholar
3) A WR core where the best WR plays CB, the second best is known for being small, running sideways for 2 yards and dropping easy passes, and the third best WR for being big, slow, and being a 5 star player who never played up to the hype
4) fucking football humping retard play calling from our learn on the job offensive coordinator
5) absolutely no identity for the offensive scheme
6) a RB core made up of a double amputee, a RB who looks the part but finds the hole as easy as grand pa Sankey would, and a RB that would make Ben ossai seem fast.
7) what's a TE?
And somewhere around 8th, after the problems with QB, RB, WR, TE, and play calling I would put problems with the OL as reasons why we sucked on offense last year. -
