One thing Washington will have to offer this time to candidates is Scott Woodward rather than Todd Turner as athletic director. One big time coach who spoke with Turner about the Washington job last time it was open was turned off by the conversation and commented that he thought Turner was weird.
But his hiring hasn't been greeted with excitement in all quarters. Some fans who were hoping for Tedford or Urban Meyer have been harshly critical of athletic director Todd Turner's and president Mark Emmert's decision.
"Anybody with half a brain can get on the Internet and say whatever they want -- pay no attention to that," Turner said. "I'm not worried. He's the Huskies coach. Husky fans everywhere are going to support our coach. They may second-guess for a short time if he was the right coach. But over time, as they come to know him and watch our team, they will agree that this guy is special."
