One of the most honest, objective assessments I've read (especially coming from a local writer) of what the current staff inherited, UW's current QB situation, and next season's QB competition:

“I’ve seen Cyler (Miles) play a bit on film. I’ve watched a little practice with Troy (Williams) and Jeff (Lindquist), and I think there’s some good talent there,” Smith said back in January when he was first hired, before the signing of Carta-Samuels. “Just getting the chance to meet them here for a couple of days, I think they’re good kids. I really do. Sark was obviously a quarterback guy, so it’s not like I’m starting from ground zero.”

Whether Smith meant that tongue in cheek or not is pure speculation. But he definitely should have been if he wasn't. Sarkisian never produced an elite quarterback in his five years at Washington and none of his USC quarterbacks, when he was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2001-03 and 2005-08, did anything in the NFL either.

He did manage to sign four 4-star quarterbacks in five years, an impressive note. But that's all it was. A posted note on an average coaching tenure. Star ratings have never meant anything except for the fan base of every college football program to compare the Joneses and the average joe. But none of the three remaining quarterbacks Sarkisian signed – Nick Montana left Washington and fell flat at Tulane – have materialized into anything compared to their hype.

Good Article. I am glad that there will be a decent alternative to Cyler if Miles doesn't prove to be improved after a full year of playing time and being coached in the Jonathan Peterman system.

Who the fuck is this guy?

I get real excited about new commits and then completely forget about them when they redshirt. I do that.

Did this Lars guy ever graduate from high school? Reading this article gave me a headache. Sup-par? Posted note? Numerous confusions between subject and object?

I don't want to be that guy but Jesus h. Christ at least fatters writes in English.

He needs to use commas in certain spots, otherwise his readers will have a WTF? moment re-read... He also needs to learn how to use dashes with those long sentences, not just hyphens.

Troy Williams was the #1 dual threat QB out of high school. Miley was in the top 10.
Peterman needs to hire a QB coach.

I hate to break the "fuck Sark" circlejerk, but evaluating Sark on how his quarterbacks did in the NFL is fucking stupid. It's not his job to ensure his quarterbacks become good pro quarterbacks, it's his job to make them good college quarterbacks. He's mediocre in just about every aspect of coaching, but you'd have to have your head up your ass to not recognize that he's been an excellent quarterback coach at the college level. Since he started at USC back in 2003, his quarterbacks have been Palmer, Leinart, Booty, Sanchez, Locker, Price, and now Kessler. Out of that whole group, Locker was probably the worst, which makes that a pretty good resume.

I was going to add that but was too lazy. I don't give a shit, even 2 shits, what a UW QB does in the NFL. Win games for Washington. That said, part of Sark's schtick was prepping QBs for The League (ILTCITL).

Forcing Locker into being a pocket passer to fit his NFL QB guru resume was SarkFS.

Well to be fair, Lockner has not proven to be the most durable of football players.

...All of us know Carta-Samuels has a better arm than Miles. 90% of college QB's do...

Yep. Troy and Lindy have better arms. But they haven't been able to supplant Cyler, either.

TL, DR version: I don't like the way Miles throws, so I'm going to hope the guy that we haven't seen is going to be the starter. Jonathon Smith says he's doing well (what else would Smith say?), he passes the look test, and I saw Carta Samuels hit the bar four out of five times on August 12th. Miles only hit two and Lindquist hit three. Therefore, Carta Samuels is better and I'm on the bandwagon.

It's a useless, bullshit article. All of us know Carta-Samuels has a better arm than Miles. 90% of college QB's do. How is Carta Samuels going to do when he's not reading cue cards on scout team? How well does he know the playbook? How did he do after August 12th when you weren't there Lars? What are players on the team saying about him?

Miles sucked this year and we need better QB play, but as we saw with Troy Williams, just because Miles isn't good doesn't mean the back ups are better. Some fucking drill where Carta Samuels did well means nothing.

I knew you were waiting around here somewhere to defend the honor of your girlfriend (Miley). Now I can leave this thread satisfied and happy.

I think we can all agree that at least he has the arm strength of a PAC-12 QB. See Power Throw:

Really strong arm from a QB who was in a run-dominant high school offense. Where have we seen that before?
