Michigan lands Kyle Whittingham, not UW’s Jedd Fisch, for coaching job

Better but not great.

Since he is coming back for 2026, we have no choice but to LIPO. However, he did a very good job with the 2023 Arizona team. His 3 losses were @ Mississippi State, vs. UW, and @USC. All were by 1 score and he beat a good amount of ranked teams:
The problem so far at UW is that he hasn't had any big wins. That obviously needs to change for his 3rd year at UW.

same as usual. Not impressed

Good question. I wouldn’t hate it, but I’m a doog and always think we can win. It’s not like Whittingham is terrible. I think he could probably recruit pretty well at UW too.

I had never really thought about Whittingham coming to UW instead of Jedd in 2024. I would have hated it at the time. I do think he much more fits the classic Washington vibe of defense and run game though.

Wittingham never had a great team at Utah in spite of a long run of being decent to good and a fair amount of underdog hype. Urban Meyer showed what the Ute ceiling was, and Witt never came anywhere near that. He was a notch above tallest midget much of the time, but only a notch.
No thanks. He's one position above Mike Riley on the "just think what he could do with a school like <insert blue blood school>'s resources" scale.

jimmy lake beat whittingham.
whittingham is a utah man (and holy fuck is that athletic department beyond fucked up but not as bad as michigans), but he's spent 30+ years at utah, making the jump to michigan is going to be steep. i doubt he's going to be able to ride his harley to the games anymore.
i doubt he wins a big 10 title, and doubt he goes to the playoff, but he's a nice bridge/adult in the room until the new coach shows up.

Urban didn’t play in the Pac 12 when at Utah. He wouldn’t have kept racking up undefeated seasons playing a full Pac schedule.
