The day the 1991 National Champions were born
Their defensive linemen were faster than our running backs - Don James

speed, speed, speed

James changed how they recruited and insisted that Husky coaches do the 40 times themselves instead of believing what they were told
-
Good thing we didn’t fire him. Don never had to face ranked internet message boards.
I also like the bit about measuring vertical jump if 40 wasn’t feasible.

UW and Alabama’s histories are indeed intertwined.
I had to watch that game with a cuog who gleefully laughed and pointed at me and the tv screen for three fucking hours.
no amount of reminding him that his team went 3-7-1 and got drilled by UW 44-23 helped

77 to 84 Washington won two of three Rose Bowls and an Orange Bowl. James had some capital stored up
86 was a decent bounce back from the disaster of 85. Curb stomped Ohio State and were in contention but ASU was loaded
87 and 88 were rough.

yes, then in 1988 the dawgs reached the Nadir point of a 6-5 season, did not qualify for a bowl game and lost to the COUGS.
James had choices to make and his response was bigger, faster tougher guys as recruiting targets and amazingly, for a dead in the water team, the new recruits were his finest players ever. It obviously did help the rebuild that Washington was still producing some national quality players…

Are you sure it wasn't the day most of your team started juicing?
-
lost the the COUGS and?
-
Memory gets a little dim after that

'86 team also crushed BYU 52-21 when BYU was ranked #11 in the country
