Maybe they wanted to wait out some distance from him accidentally texting a recruit the N word.

They did. He only got the coach in waiting title again a year or two ago. He got his pay cut in half and the title removed for a few years after the incident.
If you read what happened with the incident, it was kind of dumb on his part, but was definitely overblown at a time when people were looking for anything to be upset about.
