I think it's hard to get close to anything professionally and not become jaded by it. That's why I've always kept my connection to Husky football professional and for the love of the game here. You also see how organizations that seem like they should be sacred can be ran by run of the mill people just in it for money or prestige that they don't actually care about.
I will always remember I did a quick thing with someone who had my 9-5 job for a Husky adjacent organization. Probably my dream job if we're talking realistic 9-5 and she clearly didn't care about it and didn't do a good job but I know if I applied for it they'd never even give me an interview.

I don't view ADs, coaches, presidents or players as "the program" or "the team" as much as I view them as stewards of the program itself and it's lifeblood being the fans as a group
