Whenever we find a good coach, it looks like we need to pay 10-13mil to retain, 5-7 gets you a lot of coaches and most will bail after a couple good seasons for that 10-13mil job.
Next year is the prove it year for Fisch, then it’s time to pay or start over
-
Not only do you need to pay 10-13 per year but the Bama’s and LSU’s are doing that for ten years, so the guarantees are effectively more than double in case of firing vs what our 5 year $9.5m offer was. The Mariners offered Ohtani like one year $70m or something, the Deboer offer was akin to that.

Not sure we need to kick up this conversation, but this is unforgivable if true. The program needed to be able to offer $11-15 million or some kind of equity/incentive situation to get him to stay. What was the talk Dannen said in some interview saying the deal they had on the table was game changing or something?
-
I had this two years ago

whatever Dannen has said is totally believable

I'm on record as being a bit on both sides of this. I acknowledge Debeoer is a winner; his record says so. I also acknowledge he got a lot of help from Penix and a generational group of WR. So, I've been Switzerland in the Race/PGOS wars.
But the more I read about it the more it smells like UW small-timed it and lost the coach they should have wanted to keep. It stinks like an underwhelming effort.

I have never felt we absolutely would have kept him had we offered $11-12 million. My thing has been we never even gave ourselves the chance to find out. The one telling comment DeBoer made after arriving at Bama was, "It's nice to be at a place that values winning."
-
He had Bama locked down around the natty, with a $7m offer from us at that point. Had he a $9.5m offer after Oregon in Oct, the calculus totally changes. He has no idea he’s gonna get as far as he did, fuck we almost lost the ASU, Oregon State and WSU games. He’s not getting $10m + from Bama with 2-3 losses and a Holiday Bowl victory.

The tell to me was how hard the administration hacks came after the dissenters here
Some are still quite irate
Hi Tequilla

That's a good point. That would have taken a lot of risk off the table for him if he had 9.5 at that time.
Maybe it was his boyhood dream to coach at Alabama. IDK. But you have to like our? odds a lot more if the serious offers were made earlier.
