The arrow is pointing up for UW. No really, it is.

1. Petersen keeps repeating that there needs to be attention to detail. Brian Kelly took over for Charlie Weis, who ran the team like a resort, just like Sark. One of the first things that Kelly did was to preach an attention to detail, and it started with simply forcing the players to organize their lockers in a particular way instead of just throwing their shit everywhere. It then expanded into practice and on-field components.
2. The players resisted, and then outright revolted. I get the impression that some of what you’re seeing at UW right now is resistance to change from the upperclassmen who are Sark’s guys. They’ve had it easy and they’ll be damned if they’re going to change now. Kelly even had to put down an outright revolt from these guys, which culminated in year two with a loss to USC where our Cyler Miles (Dayne Crist) may or may not have intentionally blown the USC game by letting a goal line snap go through his legs, resulting in a TD for USC. I don’t know if you guys are going to get an outright revolt in the locker room like ND did, but you’re probably not going to completely turn the corner until the bad eggs move on through graduation/attrition.
3. Kelly brought in “his” guys. He actually calls them “RKGs” (Right Kind of Guys) instead of “OKGs” like Petersen does. Either way, Petersen needs to recruit his ass off and purge the garbage from the roster, and I think that he will.
I’m not saying that ND is the elite of college football right now or anything like that, but ND is a possible glimpse of Washington’s future because our paths are strikingly similar. We had our Lambo/Gilby (Bob Davie), replaced them with Willingham, and then hired a fat guy who was an OC that had never been a head coach (Sark/Weis) that turned out to be a bust before hiring an actual good coach in Kelly/Petersen.
You guys know that I don’t like UW, but Petersen is going to bring you guys back.

Brian Kelly is a good reference point. 8 wins, 8 wins, then 12 and a title game appearance. I also think year 3 will be when Petersen breaks through.

So all five are sixth year seniors?KenND said:

In case you don't follow ND closely Kelly became the coach in 2009 and coached the 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 seasons. He is currently in his fifth season.

I'm not worried about the program being in a better spot than it was previously. It is how much better and how long will it take.
Most, if not all here were so excited about Sark being gone and Petersen coming in that we thought the coaching change would be better than the talent leaving. Price meant a lot more than most will admit now and Sankey needs no explination. ASJ although wasn't as good when he left was still a stud and Kasen pre injury was a force. Kevin Smith turned into a pretty good player as well.
Year 3 will be the big year for me to judge the progress of Petersen. If we are staring at 5-4 (or even 6-3) in that time then it will be Door.Ass.Out. -

The biggest surprise to me this year is the shit sandwich of mid-level talent that we have on this roster. We have some elite guys. We don't have a lot of above average players. We have a lot of average players or below on the roster right now.
I'm more disappointed than surprised that the culture is taking as long to completely change. I was hopeful that many of the players knew that Sark was full of shit and would have immediately bought in. Some of our better players I think got to that point and realized that listening to Petersen was going to help them make money - so they bought in. The other guys without NFL futures, those are the guys that I think you have to look at long and hard from the buy in standpoint.
It's frustrating on the front end, but you know in the long run it's going to work out. -
That's a damn good analysis, seems to be many similarities. I hope you are correct, Sir. Good Shiite on this thread.
If Petersen can't bring us back to relevancy in 3-5 years, I don't think it can be done, and we will fade further into the Marinerization of Husky football. Let us pray to Jesus_H_Christ that Petersen can do it. -
Okay, so Kelly's a fraud/hypocrite. Thanks for confirming my thesis and answering EXACTLY as I hoped.KenND said:

Kelly also had problems with his OC and DC being fucktards last year, in addition to a couple of their best players being much more concerned with their draft stock than winning games. I doubt that Petersen will end up dealing with that though.RoadDawg55 said:Brian Kelly is a good reference point. 8 wins, 8 wins, then 12 and a title game appearance. TL DR

Maybe with a chunk of the fan base. But if they administration and fans kept Sark around for five years with 7 wins being the high water mark, no way in hell Petersen goes anywhere at 5-4/6-3 every year, because with shitty OOC schedules that means 8/9 wins every year.CuntWaffle said:I'm not worried about the program being in a better spot than it was previously. Great post. Before you registered here, Ken, I posted extensively on the similarities between Sarkisian and Weis.
-- Both took over programs that the previous year had players 100% quit on Willingham
-- Both road the coattails of an elite coach as an OC
-- Both cheated when they were OCs at their respective schools (NE's Spygate, SC's LOIC)
-- Both had never been a headcoach before
-- Both never understood the emotions of CFB and weirdly had their teams celebrate winning and practice jumping around on the sidelines.
-- Both milked a year 1 loss for years and years to doomers and doogs alike (Weis vs USC 2005 bush push game, Sark vs LSU 2009 week 1)
-- Both had physically elite #10 QBs (Quinn and Locker) and propelled them to NFL draft-worthy status but both players subsequently plateaud and didn't pan out to anything in the NFL.
-- Both fired their DCs after 2-3 years in an attempt to save their own asses.
-- Both could recruit skill position guys but sucked at developing/recruiting the lines
The list goes on and on. -

And one of the best and more recent instances of that for me was watching ND get completely undressed in a title game they shouldn't have been in. It was even more sweet than 2000, when OSU clobber fucked them in a game they REALLY had no business being invited to.
But it wasn't done there. Their latest faggy "love this special player because he's so special and awesome" story, which they never seem to run out of, turns out to be a weirdo and a pathological liar who hasn't lived up to his draft slot. Still some rumors out there that he's a closet twink, which would be perfect if it were to develop.
Another black eye for Notre Dame. -
