Coaches discard pile, 2025

Has there been a year when more P4 coaches were fired by mid-season?
-Mike Gundy, Okie St
-James Franklin, PSU
-Billy Napier, Florida
-DeShaun Foster, UCLA
-Sam Pittman, Arkansas
-Brent Pry, VTech
How many more are next?
Likely in the next week or two:
-Luke Fickell, Wisconsin
-Mike Norvell, FSU
Probable by season's end
-Hugh Freeze, Auburn
-Brian Kelly, LSU
Under the radar probable firings:
?
This seems like a lot, but I don't have the stats. How unusual is this level of turnover?
I'm also intrigued by the number of programs who want better, but who on a list of potentially available coaches that can fill all these vacancies while also being an unequivocal upgrade? The pool of elite coaches who'd want to move seems way too shallow relative to these firings, no?

Jonathan smith is done at msu. It may be a mutual parting (instead of a firing) where he “leaves” to go back to OSU and msu waives or reduces the buyout.
-
I've been wondering about him. They're arguably worse this year. But MSU has been a dumpster fire of scandals, probably the worst since Penn St.
Who can they get? What has to happen for him to survive another year? Aidan Chiles certainly hasn't helped him. At all.

Add the Other Wrong Stoops to the list of fired at season’s end.
-
fickell gets tarmac'd next week after they get killed in oregon. we? play them the week after, theyre gonna be so greased up.
-
what we think about Stinkin Lincoln Riley? Feels like he’s gonna be just good enough to not get fired and keep his recruiting class of 38 commits as leverage.
-
Lots of schools held on to coaches an extra year because of the crazy buyouts and the ever struggling AD financials dictated they stay. Unless a bunch of these guys had really turned a corner (was never gonna happen), what we’re seeing was inevitable. Guys like Chesney at JMU and Chadwell at Liberty might be in line for some of the lower jobs like Va. Tech or Okie Lite. Coordinators like Will Stein or Brian Hartline might get the call up too. Jeff Brohm is a name that any blue blood should look hard at as he regularly punches above his weight class. I wish he were at UW. 4-2 career against top 5 teams is a real eyebrow raiser.
-
Agree here. Pent up "demand" for firing shitty coaches who should've lost their jobs last year.
For a poverty program like UW, that makes this upcoming firing / hiring cycle too expensive for them to replace Fisch. 7 wins in year 3 will be special.
-
Indiana, Iowa, and probably Penn State are home losses. Will drop one of Michigan State or Purdue on the road and the others are definite losses.
Are there actually 7 wins on the schedule next year?
-
we’re talking a full yeah ahead but what are you basing home losses to Iowa and Penn State on? Don’t think we will be world beaters but Iowa is still Iowa and Penn State will be in a complete rebuild. Loses at Michigan State or Purdue would be tarmac.
-
Wisconsin came out today and said “we’re too broke, we’re not firing fickell”. Wonder if FSU is in the same boat.
-
Yes, yes they are.
-
Bulimia left Wisconsin for Arkansas and got fired. Now he has Illinois ranked for the moment
Did beat USC this year
-
Iowa and Penn St will still have linemen and I expect Penn St to make a good hire and buy some players because they care.
Road retardation will continue until it doesn’t.
-
What I’m getting from this round of firings and retentions (Wisconsin, FSU) is that ADs and their staffs are in over their heads when negotiating contracts.

Add Peyton Pelleuer - Skyline HS

I know a college kid who is a LSU fan. It sounds like Kelly wore out his welcome. It's funny that they fired More Miles and Oregon or whatever his name is. They won the championships (magically with two losses once! SEC!!)
