The Hardcore Husky Podcast: If Cignetti was a grand slam hire, Fisch was a fielder's choice*

I wouldn't say UW came out of thin air. The program went to the CFP, the Rose Bowl, and Fiesta Bowl under CP. He retired, they took a step back under Jimmy Fake (4-8), then DeBoer went 11-2 in his first year and 14-0 in his 2nd, beating Texas (again) before playing Michigan in the NC.
Fisch is pretty savvy with his career and 2026 is the key year for everyone involved. He'll either do well and leave for the NFL (most likely), get extended (less likely), or get fired and cash out (somewhat likely). The 2026 team should be talented and deep enough to win 9 or 10 regular season games (assuming they have the funds to bring in a LT, DT, Edge, and possibly a RB & TE).
As for up and coming coaches, Spencer Danielson and Jimmy Rogers are on my list.

Lance Leipold won a shitload at D3, doing ok at Kansas but yeah it is Kansas. You might be able to hire anybody out of NDSU right now and get production
-
Both Leipold and Klieman are good examples.
-
Which is why I actually have some hope for the Cougs. They did exactly what I was lobbying UW to do prior to hiring DeBoer.
-
It seemed like the top 3 candidates after DeBoer left were Fisch, Chris Klieman, and Lance Leopold. It's looking good that UW passed on Leopold. Klieman had another good year in 2024 but is struggling this year so we'll see how 2025 ends for him.
I guess we could say that Fisch was the prettiest looking girl in a room full of mids at the time. The Illinois game looms large.
-
Wonder who you could have had on the list if the budget was $12m.
-
kleiman seems like a pretty good coach but he has become a farm system for the sec and big.
-
Sounds like he would have fit right in.
-
Another run at Matt Campbell?
-
Yes though I don't see UW making a change until during / after the 2026 (unless the wheels totally fall off, which I don't anticipate).
-
Make Nick Saban say no
He owes us

That’s what’s so devastating about the lose Saturday, getting boat raced in the second half at Michigan could eliminate any possible Florida interest. At this point he’s going to need to run the table and go 5-0 for Florida to gain any real interest except their AD will most likely have their guy in the crosshairs before Jed has the chance to real them back.
Best we can hope for now is we finish 9-3 and he beat’s UCLA. For UCLA to take serious interest in Fisch he can’t have a performance like Michigan in Pasadena. Hopefully his wife loves LA because it’s obviously a bad football career move for Amber’s husband.
I like Jed just not as our coach, his offense reminds me of Petersens his last couple seasons at Boise, dated and not innovative. If he wants to call plays fuck off to UCLA where 9-3 and 8-4 are fine.
-
Perhaps AZ Cardinals?
-
The Cardinals are stupid. It would be like them hiring Shane Waldron as head coach. Similar NFL success.
-
So you're tellin' me there's a chance!
-
We’re stuck with him I think. No actual upgrades from his perspective are gonna be interested. Knowing us though he scares us into giving him a raise.
-
I think he was more like a bunt with the bases loaded and two out.
-
I brought this up on the podcast
-
They hired Kliff Kingsbury after he got fired from Texas Tech
-
I think I saw him wearing a purple tie the other day…
-
Kingsbury was also viewed as an innovative offensive mind, for what it was worth.
What is Fisch viewed as? He's not innovative at all. Not sure at this point what the NFL would see in him. He really needs to have a wild-ass successful season at UW to turn heads in their direction. It was sort of looking like it could possibly maybe conceivably happen, but getting routed 48-13 combined by the two B1G bluebloods has definitely taken the luster off his lily.
That said. If someone is dumb enough to hire him away, who am I to say they shouldn't?
-
Kingsberry had coached Mahomes, Murray, Mayfield and probably another one I’m forgetting in college. That was his selling point at least. He may land one of these open jobs.
Jedd hasn’t coached any good qb’s doesn’t have a system and doesn’t have any results. His only selling point is his one year stints working under good NFL coaches that didn’t see the need for a second and his legendary 2023 Arizona year that I’ll tell my grandchildren about.
