You guys are off the rails if you think Jacob "They gave me a nickname before I ever did a single fucking thing in college football" Eason wasn't a significant step down from Haener in a real game.
2018 Cal probably Peterman's worst game as a coach at UW. Not just trusting himself and starting Haener over Eason probably one of his worst bigger decisions.
When Petersen says he was "slipping" that's what I think of.
Not telling the boosters or whoever that Eason can't read a single fuckin thing and that he straight up lost the job and that you can't set that example for your players and staff.
Starting Haener would have been a massive ballsy move. If he came out and struggled at all the horde (me included) would have wanted to kill Peterman. I wonder if he hoped Eason was a gamer and would turn it on once the games started. Then he didn't.
Eason started out like gangbusters in 2019 and, in retrospect, doesn’t seem like the problem. He had shit receivers and superstar Puka languishing on the bench.
Bizarro Cal game red-pilled that season and teams realized they could pick on Kyler Manu. Late stage Petersen was a tough hang. Dude showed up from Boise burnt out and kicked the can down the road for a few years until…well🤷♂️🤷♂️
It's true that UW looked pretty good at the end of 2019, even though that Boise team being ranked #12 or whatever was ridiculous. Eason + Ahmed had me pretty optimistic for 2020. Eason did say right after the game that his mind wasn't made up yet.
If I remember correctly Eason was kind of a thud against Cal and his immobility was already clearly a problem. I get that his WRs weren't great but felt like the love affair was already over by then then he tore it up against crappy teams.
A conspiracy theory I've held ever since Pete quit: The Haener/Eason thing was a huge factor in Pete quitting coaching. I think Haener likely beat out Eason in Pete's eyes during camp but there was no way he could start him after the Cal fiasco and with all the fanfare Eason garnered. Haener was the ultimate underrated gym rat Pete-style QB and Eason was a cocky rich kid who (allegedly) didn't put the time in in the film room. IIRC, Haener transferred the day after Eason was announced as starter. And as much as I hate to give this asshole credit, I do think Mario Cristobal was the other huge factor in Pete quitting.
I think the Haener/Eason thing might have been a final tipping point yeah. Did TSIO also always say Petersen hated Browning by the end of things and that was another drop in the bucket. Could make an expansive list of stuff. I think Gaskin (and some of the other seniors) kind of willed them to that 2018 championship because I think Pattersman was also burnt out by the way the conference set them up against Oregon that year, the OKG is racist BS, Gee Scott Jr. saga, having to suck up to guys he probably knew sucked like Smalls, and the impending uphill battle with JT and Egbuka. I think it was around then they had done a good job of getting on Egbuka early and then the game Petersen came to watch him he wore Ohio State gloves.

Ahmed in the league and Gaskin not.
Mickens and Hall vested in an nfl pension and Kasen Williams never got a sniff.
NFL is weird sometimes
speaking of… not good.
Kasen Williams was never fast to begin with and got bad injuries
Should’ve stayed for Petersen’s 2nd year. Might’ve changed his fortunes.
Pete's offense with Haener at qb? Sure.
we saw that and it was an evan weaver pick 6

Anyone who thought he would make a good pro is retarded.

sermon seeker? Good for him.
now he can buy the entire trailer park!
All jokes aside, crazy story of what this kid and his family went through so happy for them all.

That's the problem with annointed kids out of high school.
Like a week or two later after Cal, he was beating a shitty BYU on ESPN and already had Todd McWhoeverthefuck creaming himself on air again.
