Bryson has two majors but also has nine PGA Tour wins. Phil has six majors and his first one at 34 or so.
Lots of late bloomers in golf over the years that figure it out in their 30’s. It’s a unique part about golf from other sports. My opinion is that golf careers for the truly elite players are going to have far shorter peaks than in the past and the peaks are going to happen earlier. Too many young guys coming up that had Trackmans in their cribs and will be driving it 300 yards at age 13.

Wyndham Clark: News got out this week that the 2023 U.S. Open champion was suspended from Oakmont, the final ignominy from a locker room-destruction incident after he missed the cut at the U.S. Open. And after an opening 76 at Portrush, he might be cleaning out another locker early (hopefully quietly).
Bryson DeChambeau: His birdie-less 78 included an awkward-stance whiff on the 4th hole. He’s looking at his fourth missed cut in eight Opens, with just one top-30 finish (T8, 2022) and increased chatter that he doesn’t have the artistry required for links golf.

Bryson shot 65 today. Guys on the course now have the best of the weather, Scottie looking sharp and may have the lead at days end.

From now on, if I think Scottie is going to miss the cut, I’ll just predict he wins.

Bryson shot the lowest last 54 holes in Open history then Wyndham Hotel matched it for a couple of back door top 5 finishes after opening round disasters.
Scottie separated himself further. It comes down to approach shots. He gives himself more chances and is on a roll putting. Contrast to Rory hitting wedges to outside 30 feet when he needed to make a move.
Scottie is the 30th member of the 4 Majors club
Rory got to 4 from 2011 to 2014 in a run similar to Scottie. Rory didn't play the tour as much so regular tour wins are lower. Got his 5th this year
Brooks won 4 from 2017 to 2019 and added a 5th in 23
The question is whether Scottie gets through the invisible wall. Took Phil until he was 50 to win 6 and join Faldo and Trevino. Above that are the legends of the game

Gotterup getting some Ryder Cup buzz. No diss on him but no one had ever heard of him two weeks ago, which in an indictment on the assumed players on the USteam that are playing terrible this year. Morikawa, Cantaly, Spieth come to mind here. JT is on my watchlist too.

Scottie is ridiculous. He’ll end up at probably 8-9 majors.
Tiger also had like 6 majors from 97-2021. Let’s not get crazy here.

At this point you compare Scottie to the post Tiger multiple major winners like I did. He is in position to take the next step. In 2014 when Rory beat Phil at Valhalla for #4 he was younger than Scottie and most thought he was the next one

Scheffler now has 17 PGA Tour victories, accomplished in less than three-and-a-half years. It’s as many two-time U.S. Open champion Curtis Strange produced in a World Golf Hall of Fame career. It’s the same number as Jim Furyk. It’s one behind Julius Boros and Nick Price and just two behind Ernie Els, Ben Crenshaw, Hubert Green and Tom Kite.
He’s already surpassed Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth, two players that offer a cautionary tale that nothing is guaranteed.
Ten years ago, when Spieth won the Masters and the U.S. Open, missed a playoff by a stroke at the Open and finished second at the PGA Championship, he seemed destined to win 25 or more PGA Tour events. But he’s added just two titles since his 2017 Open victory and is stuck on 13. Thomas, after getting to 15 wins in 2022, only this year added the 16th win.
It’s increasingly more difficult to maintain success. Rory McIlroy, who captured the Masters earlier this year for his 29th PGA Tour victory, might be among the few players to ever get to 30 PGA Tour wins again.
It puts in perspective what Woods (82 wins) and Phil Mickelson (45) have accomplished.

His formula is Tigeresque. Grab the lead on Friday or Saturday and bludgeon them with irons 20 feet away pin high and watch the field to melt away.

Agree that this was a Tiger like tourney for Scottie. He choked the life out of it Friday. Dad is looking pretty good though watching Charlie at the Junior Am
