The oldest championship and perhaps the least important to America. That has changed because the PGA is well, the PGA but back in the day it was the British Open and the US Open was the Open. Tom Watson won 5 British Opens and was always considered a little bit less than the guys that won the other Majors. Tom won 2 Masters and a US Open
Jack and Tiger won 3 each giving them three career Slams. Faldo won three
But its a big deal now. I think we get a less known winner. More JJ than Scottie or Rory

Rory has a chance to have an all time memorable year. Grand slam at Augusta, Open in his home country and a road Ryder Cup win where he goes 4-1 or something.

Scottie was bitching about the greens last week. On paper he should win like 6 of these with his game, but something tells me he won’t like the randomness at Open courses. Might take him awhile to win one like Phil.

Wish I had the time to get into it more, but, like Scottie, I have gone soft since having kids and for some reason try to spend time with them. However, unlike Scottie (and @HuskyBuck), I have not earned $75 million in the past three years at my job and cannot retire whenever I feel like work is impacting my family life.

Interesting fact: Jordan Spieth is number 1 in total strokes gained at The Open the last 10 years. Could he get back on the major wagon? Probably not.
Rory will be the sentimental favorite, but I’m not sure he’s mentally tough enough to handle the pressure of that combined with all the inevitable bad breaks you get playing links golf. If he does win, Northern Ireland may end up being a dry country by the time that celebration ends.
Hot take: Scottie misses the cut and spends an incessant amount of time complaining about the greens and course conditions.
I agree with you, @Bob_C. This is Bryson’s best shot to win The Open. The forecast looks pretty mild by UK standards, and Portrush sets up a lot better for him than most of the other Open courses. He hasn’t been very consistent lately, so I think it’s unlikely he gets the job done. I could see a similar situation to 2019 where a really good but not top 10 player like Shane Lowry gets it done. I like Fleetwood and Bob Macintyre.
I love The Open. It’s tied with the US Open as my 2nd favorite major. The Masters is my favorite by a wide margin, and the PGA is whatever. The time difference is shitty, so it looks like I’ll have some late nights and early mornings the next few days.
