This one particularly stings and is oddly not remembered at all. This was the beginning of the end for the program/run. Came in undefeated and ranked in the top 10 with wins over Michigan and USC and not only did they get blown out, got beaten up and embarrassed and both lines particularly. Started a string of losses like this and UCLA ended 7-4.
Oregon State later in the year was actually worse. Huskies had climbed back to #8 and a win there ends up tying for a conference title with Oregon and got blown out by a 5-6 Beav.
If you want to know how different college football was at the time, that UCLA team had won at Alabama and against Ohio State in Pasadena.
As the two pointed out above me - UCLA, Oregon State and Cal got Rick fired. Period. 8-4 will get Fisch extended. Keep in mind UW got blown out last year more times than in years. Back to the bad old days in fact
Cal loss was the next year when the wheels pretty much officially came off the wagon, starting with squandering a win at Michigan with a sloppy penalty. Agree Neu was pretty much a dead man walking going into 2003 anyway.
To be fair, I think Cal having Nnamdi Asomugha slow down Reggie was understandable.
I was at that game and it was embarrassing. Foster torching our defense felt similar to when JJ Stokes torched us in the mid 90s. Can’t remember the year M.Jones Drew torched us.

Yep. Also Cal ending our winning streak and shutting down Reggie. I think that was the same year.🤔

Sitting in Husky Stadium in stunned disbelief that we actually lost to fucking Cal
